SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Holiday tournaments and December non-league frays are last year’s news. Now, it’s time for Sullivan County teams to make a run for a sectional berth by the end of February. Here is a brief rundown of how things are shaping up:

Boys: Division III Monticello (3-3, 1-0 OCIAA) takes on league-leading Cornwall and then travels to Liberty for a tournament this week. In Division IV, Liberty (2-3, 1-0 OCIAA) faces league rival O’Neill before hosting the Monties. Sullivan West (0-8, 0-1 OCIAA) traveled to Burke on January 5 and hosted O’Neill on January 7. In Division V, Tri-Valley (2-4, 0-2 OCIAA) traveled to league rival S.S. Seward on January 5 and hosted Chester for a league fray on January 7. Fallsburg (7-1, 2-0 OCIAA) traveled to Eldred on January 5 for a non-league game. In Division VI, Eldred (2-1, 2-0 OCIAA) will also host Roscoe for a league game on January 8.

Girls: Monticello (0-3, 0-1 OCIAA) will host Cornwall on January 8. Liberty (1-3, 0-1 OCIAA) traveled to O’Neill for a league tilt on January 6 before hosting Burke on January 8. Sullivan West (4-3, 1-0 OCIAA) will host O’Neill on January 8. Fallsburg (2-4, 0-3 OCIAA) was at Eldred on January 6 and then at S.S. Seward for a league game on January 8. Hot stuff: Fallsburg (7-1, 2-0 OCIAA) has evinced the most dramatic reversal from last year’s 0-20 season. Included in their victories are a pair of overtime wins over Sullivan West, which traded places with the Comets from a year ago and are now 0-8. Fallsburg dropped to Class C, while Sullivan West remains in Class B. (Click for larger version)
