Geocaching hike
CLARYVILLE, NY Frost Valley YMCA will host a free workshop to introduce Geocaching to a new audience on Saturday, December 19 at 9:00 a.m. It is located at 2000 Frost Valley Road, eight miles from Claryville.
Geocaching involves using Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers to locate hidden treasure boxes (or caches). This active, family-friendly activity is rising in popularity, thanks to the growing numbers of GPS-enabled smartphones, explained Frost Valleys Environmental Science coordinator Reid Bauer.
The Geocaching outing will cover the basics of navigating with a GPS receiver. Participants will head out and search for some of the hidden Geocache treasures on Frost Valley property.
Frost Valley will provide GPS receivers for this workshop, but visitors are welcome to bring their own. The number of GPS receivers available is limited, so email rbauer@frostvalley.org or call 845/985-2291, ext. 397 in advance to register for the free event.
