‘Shorts’ shown free as thank-you to community

Callicoon, NY — “Shorts” (rated PG), an animated family comedy, has been selected as the 17th annual free Community Appreciation matinee film by the Callicoon Theater. Shows are scheduled at the Callicoon Theater on Saturday, December 19 and Sunday, December 20 at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.

“Spy Kids” filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has again made a film where the heroes are all kids and special effects go hog wild. The suburban community of Black Falls is terrorized by a Booger Monster, but the three Short brothers discover a “Rainbow Rock” and, if a person makes a wish while clutching the rock, the wish comes true—but not necessarily in the manner imagined.

“Our loyal patrons are responsible for keeping the Callicoon Theater open; this is our way of thanking them for their support and friendship throughout the year,” said Jim and Barbara Kayton, owners and operators of the theater since 1986.

Opened in 1948, the 380-seat Callicoon Theater is the oldest continuously operated—and now the only—cinema in Sullivan County. The theater offers the largest screen in the region and Dolby Digital audio. It has been voted Best Movie Theater in the region by moviegoers annually since 1986 and has been honored by the U.S. Congress, New York State Assembly and the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce.
