ANGIE SIPOS HILL

Angie Sipos Hill, a bookkeeper, homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at her home in Forestburgh, NY surrounded by her family. She was 90.

The daughter of the late Antonio Pagano and Oliva Autunno Pagano, she was born August 6, 1919 in New York City. She was the widow of William B. Hill who predeceased her in 1964.

Angie loved her family, her home and her pets above all.

She is survived by a son, John J. “Bill” Sipos and his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Wendy M. Sipos; her grandchildren William B. Sipos and his wife MaryEllen, Robert J. Sipos and his fiancée Lori Lahoda, Michelle Velasquez and her husband Ivan and James LeConey and his wife Michelle; seven great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Anthony Pagano and Albert Pagano, both of Marlboro, NY; two sisters, Josephine Yannone and Vee Frederico, both of Newburgh, NY; several nieces and nephews; her loving caregiver, Calmeta Kelly; and her loving dog, Bootsie.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by siblings: Sam Pagano, Michael Pagano, Mary Alonge, Rose Croyle, Yolanda Dorazio, Sadie Myer and Vinnie Celeste.

A service was held at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home in Monticello, NY with Fr. Ivan Csete officiating. Burial followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Monticello.

ARTHUR J. JEBSON

Arthur J. Jebson of Paupack, PA, formerly of Cleveland OH, and Key West, FL died November 27, 2009 at Brighten At Julia Ribaudo, Lake Ariel, PA. He was 88.

He was born in County Wicklow, Ireland to Percy Jebson and Mary Dagg Jebson.

He was married for 61 years to Mildred M. Gumble Jebson, who predeceased him.

Arthur served as Pike County Sheriff for 24 years. He was also operated Jebson’s Radio & TV in Hawley many years ago and was associated with Jebson Insurance Agency in Paupack.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was of the Roman Catholic faith; a member of the PA Sheriffs Association; former member of VFW Robert Drake Memorial, Post 5823 of Hawley; and the Hawley Rotary Club. He was also an avid ham radio enthusiast.

He is survived by his daughter Karen Weaver of Paupack; granddaughter Kristen and husband Kirk Behney of Paupack; granddaughter Tracey Weaver of Lewes, DE; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at Teeters’ East Chapel, Hawley, PA on Friday, December 4, 2009 followed by a memorial service.

Cremation will take place at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, with interment of cremains in Pine Grove Cemetery, Paupack.


EDWARD N. MINOGUE

Edward N. Minogue of Highland Lake, NY, a retired district manager for A&P and longtime resident of the area, died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. He was 83.

The son of the late Edward A. and Willa Minogue, he was born April 20, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY.

Edward was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Yulan, NY and of the Shohola, PA Fire Dept.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Gilmore Minogue of Highland Lake; daughters Janet Skeggs of Tucson, AZ, Lynne Mohr of North Wales, PA and Gail Kohle of Medord, NY; grandsons Douglas Skeggs of Riverview, FL, Kenneth Skeggs of Tucson, Michael Skeggs of Tucson, Christopher Mohr of North Wales and Joseph Kohle of Medford, NY; two great-grandsons; sisters Gail Minogue of Los Angeles, CA, Claire Stahler of Tucson and Ruth Houser of Riverview, MI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 10, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Yulan. Father Anthony Moore O.F.M. will officiate. Christian Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.

ANNA RUDY

Anna Rudy of Bethel, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Catskill Regional Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing Unit in Harris, NY. She was 85.

The daughter of the late Stephans and Paraska Nimtschuk, she was born July 21, 1924 in Ostapkiwzi Kreis Kolomea, Ukraine. Anna immigrated to the United States in 1949 with her husband and son. The family lived and worked on a dairy farm in Bethel for many years until they purchased a home of their own.

Anna enjoyed cooking Ukrainian meals, tending to her gardens and caring for her family. She is well known for her delicious homemade pierogies. No one was allowed to leave the table hungry.

She is survived by her daughters Susan Rudy of Bethel and Katherine Davenport and husband, Jon of Lawrenceville, GA; sons Nikolaus Rudy of Bellows Falls, VT, Steven Rudy of Liberty, NY and John Rudy of Bethel; and grandchildren Benjamin Freed, Katie and Ryan Davenport.

Anna was predeceased by her husband, George.

A funeral service was held on Monday, December 7 at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, Monticello, NY. Burial followed at the Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville, NY.

MARYELLEN SCHOFIELD

Maryellen Schofield of Beach Lake, PA, a longtime area resident, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 72.

The daughter of the late James and Josephine O’Neil Duffy, she was born July 31, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, NY.

Maryellen was a member of St. Bernard’s R.C. Church, Beach Lake, and attended St. Francis Xavier, R.C Church, Narrowsburg, NY.

A family statement reads: “Maryellen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. As a longtime employee of Woodloch Pines Resort, she made many friends and guests would come back year after year and ask for her. She will be greatly missed.”

Maryellen is survived by her husband Ernest E. Schofield, at home; son James E. Schofield and wife Patti of Vernon Hills, IL; daughter Kathleen Mary O’Brien and husband Michael R. of Beach Lake; granddaughters Sophi Schofield, Ryan Schofield and Ryleigh O’Brien.

She was predeceased by brother Patrick Duffy.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

ROSE SCHUMAN

Rose Schuman of Honesdale, PA died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, PA. She was 92.

She was preceded in death by first husband William B. Smith in 1949 and second husband Merton W. Schuman in 1976.

Born October 31, 1917 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Katherine Hiller Bishop. A housewife and mother, she also worked at Laura Jane as a seamstress. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving is daughter Donna Shelton of Honesdale; sisters Adelaid Bishop of Honesdale, Wansley White of Hawley, PA, Arlene Rose of Beach Lake, PA, Gertrude Loring of Florida and Virginia Potter of Florida; grandsons Randolph, Patrick, Jeremy and Timothy Shelton; five great granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brothers Harland and William Bishop; and sister Almeda Augello.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Ken Buckwalter, Pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

BARBARA SLETNER

Barbara Sletner of Milford, PA, died Friday, December 4, 2009 at Belle Reve Senior Living Center, Milford, PA. She was 75.

The daughter of Robert and Dorothy (Morch) Richter, she was born on April 5, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. She was married to Johan Sletner.

She was a bank teller for Wayne Bank.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Sherri Kowalski of Milford; her son Eric Sletner of Shohola, PA; grandchildren Kerri Kowalski, Nicholas Sletner and Melissa Sletner.

She was predeceased by her daughter Laura Sletner.

Cremation was private at the convenience of the family.

GRACE J. THEYSOHN

Grace J. Theysohn, a resident of Alexandria, VA and a former 21-year resident of Callicoon, NY died earlier this week. She was 87.

Born on October 22, 1922 in Manhattan to John Patrick and Anne Mulligan Maguire, she was a longtime employee of the New York Telephone Company, and retired as executive assistant to the senior vice president.

She was married to Vincent L. Theysohn on February 14, 1950.

Grace was a longtime employee of New York Telephone; a member of the Pioneers Communications Workers of America, Catholic Women’s Guild of St. John the Evangelist; a Girl Scout leader; and fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and Muscular Dystrophy.

Survivors include her daughters Anne Marie and husband LTG(R) William J. Lennox and Margaret R. and husband LTG(R) John R. Wood, of Alexandria; grandchildren Maj. Matthew J. Lennox and wife Amy, of West Point, NY, Anne Marie and husband Lee M. Van Atta, of Alexandria, Maj. Andrew K. and wife Tara Lennox, of West Point, Margaret Lee Wood of Alexandria and Jonathan W. and wife Amanda Lennox, of Dallas, TX; and sister Margaret Reynolds of Florida.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, November 28 at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon. Burial will be made at the Callicoon Cemetery with Fr. Ignatius Smith officiating.

SHIRLEY WHITNEY

Shirley I. Whitney, 80, of Starlight, PA died on Tuesday, December 2, 2009 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. She was 80.

She was born on October 24, 1929 in Preston Park, PA, the daughter of Stanley and Hazel (Baldwin) Whitney. Shirley worked at the Human Resource Center in Beach Lake for 20 years and she was a member of Buckingham Baptist Church, Starlight. She also loved doing ceramics.

Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Agnes Whitney, Starlight, sister Merle Kent, Owego, NY, sister-in-law Joyce Whitney, Marathon, NY; special friend Marilyn Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was predeceased by a brother, Gail Whitney.

A service was held at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock, NY with Pastor David Norton of the Buckingham Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
