NARROWSBURG, NY — Sarah van Ouwerkerk’s photography of horses will be on display at River Gallery, 8 Main Street through January 23, 2010. There will be an artist’s reception on Saturday, December 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

“The horse is a subject matter that exists as its own landscape, and one that has given me

immeasurable insight. Grace and power go hand and hand with these creatures. I can’t imagine life without them,” said van Ouwerkerk.

Her eye and camera stray from representational images to capture subtle moments which most of us never see.

A resident of Manhattan and Lake Huntington, she received her Masters of Fine Art in photography at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute where she later served as a professor and chair of the Media Arts Department. She has also taught at Parsons School of Design, Lehigh University and New School University. Her photographs have been seen in more than 50 solo and group exhibitions, in both the United States and Europe, and in the 2005 International Museum of the Horse exhibition. Her works have appeared in Smithsonian Magazine, Cure Magazine, Woman’s Art Journal and Kelly Klein’s Horse Book.
