Lumberland Fire Department cookbook

LUMBERLAND, NY — The Lumberland Fire Department Auxiliary is taking advance sale orders for their personalized cookbook. The spiral-bound cookbook will feature recipes from local residents in different full-color sections. It contains many pages of helpful cooking hints along with several pages of local information.

The cost of the cookbook is $12. You can purchase your copy by sending your name, address and telephone number, along with your payment, to LFD Auxiliary, 1117 County Rte 31, Glen Spey, NY 12737.

‘Bethel,’ by Rita Sheehan

BETHEL, NY — “Bethel,” by local author Rita J. Sheehan, contains more than 200 black-and-white vintage photographs along with a narrative of the town’s history.

Bethel was established on March 27, 1809, and the first hotel in the county opened in the hamlet of White Lake in 1846. The book contains vintage images that recall these years, on up through the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Festival to the present. Most of the images in the book, which is part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series, were donated from the private collections of local residents.

Books by Clara Gillow Clark

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Saturday, December 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., renowned author Clara Gillow Clark will sign copies of her books, which include the Hattie series, a young adult mystery series set in 19th century Upper Delaware and Hudson Valleys. Clark, who lives in Pennsylvania, is the youngest child in a family of “farmers and readers.” Her latest book in the series is “Secrets of Greymoor,” published in 2009 by Candlewick Press. Old Stone Jail ornament

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Historical Society’s Christmas tree ornament this year depicts Wayne County’s Old Stone Jail, which celebrated its 150th birthday in 2009. The ornament costs $17.50 plus tax available at the society’s Museum Shop, along with other items including books, foods, handmade items and prints. There will be an open house in the 1860 building, with refreshments and an opportunity to browse the museum as well as the shop, on Saturday, November 28, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
