PLATTSBURGH, NY They say theres no substitute for experience. But when it came to running in their first state meet, someone forgot to tell that to Eldred sophomore Hunter Proscia and Sullivan West freshman Dani Myers. Proscia was Sullivan Countys top finisher in his class, garnering an impressive 11th place in 16:38.2. Fellow newbie teammate Alex Campanella did well, too, with his 31st place finish in 17:18.2.
In the girls Class C race, freshman Dani Myers came in 21st in an impressive 19:46.6, besting teammate and three-time state qualifier Rianne Erlwein, who has been plagued by a calf injury for much of the latter part of the season. Erlwein came in 52nd in 20:43, just ahead of Tri-Valleys Caroline Bertholf (20:46.9), another three-time state contestant. Both girls ran faster times than a year ago when they posted 21:07 and 21:30.2 respectively.
Monticellos Dave Wilbur was 38th in Class A, up 10 spots from a year ago. His time of 16:40.3 was an improvement from last years 17:55.8.
Eldreds girls team made it to states after winning S.S. Seward had to withdraw, as some of its runners were playing in the regional soccer tournament. Eldreds top girl finisher was Christine Donnelly, who came in 62nd in 21:45.7. Donnelly improved from last years state meet when she ran 23:12.5.
