The art of the playful

HONESDALE, PA — Timeless/An interactive Photography Exhibit will open at The North Light Loft and Grandstyle Framing on Saturday, November 14 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The exhibit, featuring the work of portrait photographer Maureen Cassidy, will run through December 31. The gallery is located at 214 Sixth Street (across from Van Gorders furniture) on the second floor.

Peter English, the host at The North Light Loft and Grandstyle Framing, said, “I know a great artist when I see their work, and I was inspired to create a show of Maureen’s candid and intimate work.” Cathy Maguire, his wife and partner, designed the exhibit and incorporated playful interactive presentations of Cassidy’s images.

“I feel that art culture for young people is practically non-existent or taboo. Both my children and I are bored with the way art is normally shown and this was my opportunity to change that. Children enjoy looking at images of people as much as adults, and I really wanted the show to be light and fun,” said Maguire.

Images have been printed on silk and sewed into a parachute for children to play with. Cloth and paper kites and mobiles will be suspended from the ceilings. Peephole boxes with images inside will be mounted on walls for the small and the tall. An enormous magnet puzzle with dozens of images can be manipulated to create personalized works.
