Haydn and Mendelssohn celebrated in Tusten concert
NARROWSBURG, NY Soprano Kate Hurney and pianist Katherine Addleman, assisted by Carolyn Steinberg on flute, will commemorate the anniversaries of Joseph Haydn (1732 -1809) and Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) in a concert titled They Went to London, at the Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge Street, on Saturday, November 7 at 8:00 p.m. The event is presented by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA).
Haydn and Mendelssohn, each in his time, was invited to London at the height of his fame. Inspired by Londons distinguished artists, sophisticated audiences, music-loving aristocracy and generally vibrant cosmopolitanism, each wrote some of his most brilliant works there. This program includes familiar songs, settings of Irish and Scottish folk tunes, solo works for piano, arias from their best loved oratorios and works by their contemporaries.
Hurney, who has been called a master in her category for her performances of Mozarts music, has previously explored this territory in her concerts We are Amused about Queen Victoria and Light, Bright and Sparkling, the musical world of Jane Austen. She has garnered rave reviews since her Carnegie Hall debut for the beauty of her voice and her expressivity and musicianship.
Addleman began her piano studies at the age of six in Montreal. She won scholarships to the Conservatoire de Musique et dArts Dramatique de Quebec and McGill University where she was a medal winner. She frequently plays in the United States and Canada in solo and chamber music recitals, and as an accompanist.
Tickets cost $15 (DVAA members receive $2 discount on advance sales), and may be purchased by calling 845/252-7272. For more information visit ArtsAllianceSite.org.
