Students get a whiff of the greasepaint with ‘Inherit the Wind’

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — The Forestburgh Theatre Arts Center (FTAC), a not-for-profit theatre organization working with The Forestburgh Playhouse, will present “Inherit the Wind” at four schools around the county from Thursday, October 15 through Sunday, October 20.

The production, a dramatization of the Scopes “Monkey Trial” featuring both professional actors and local community actors, will be presented at three local schools for students. Public performances will also be held at Sullivan County Community College on Friday and Saturday, October 16 and 17 at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students. For reservations call 845/794-1194.

This co-production with the Forestburgh Playhouse continues the mission of the FTAC of presenting educational experiences in professional theatre aimed at elementary and secondary school students in Sullivan and surrounding counties. To enhance the learning experience, there will be workshops led by FTAC artists that allow student participants to explore the play from a variety of perspectives: the historical background of the play, the literary aspects, the theatrical design aspects and even the business aspect.

“Inherit the Wind” will be presented for in-school student audiences on Thursday, October 15 at 8:30 a.m. at Tri-Valley Central School, and at 1:30 p.m. at Liberty Central School; the student performance for Monticello Central School is scheduled for Friday morning, October 16.
