Story time

MONTICELLO, NY — Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County is offering a story time for children ages four to six at The Literacy Center, 63 North Street in Monticello on Saturday, October 17 at 10:30 a.m. A New York State certified teacher who has worked with that age group will be reading and offering arts and crafts activities. The program will last about 45 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Literacy Volunteers hope to offer this program once a month. It is free and open to the public.

Fall Farm Day at Frost Valley

CLARYVILLE, NY — Frost Valley YMCA invites the community to its annual Fall Farm Day on Sunday, October 18 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at its farm camp. Visitors will be able to meet an assortment of farm animals up close and can also assist with farm chores. For a taste of farm life traditions, there will also be felting, candle making and spinning demonstrations.

The culinary choices awaiting guests will include cider, donuts, hot cocoa and Frost Valley’s Farm Chili.

Parker unveils new pieces for farewell party

MILFORD, PA — The Pike County Historical Society’s Columns Museum will mark the end of its exhibit of contemporary art created by Yvonne Parker, “Then and Now: Expressions of Beauty,” with a grand farewell reception on Saturday, October 17 at 4:00 p.m.

Parker will be adding some new pieces to the existing exhibition at the meet-the-artist reception, which coincides with the Black Bear Film Festival. The Columns will show several historical films, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the main floor of the museum, in keeping with the weekend’s cinematic theme. The 4:00 p.m. reception will feature complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

WIGSTICKS drag show and dance party

MILFORD, PA — The Upper Delaware GLBT Center will present “WIGSTICKS Out in the Wild’erness,” a drag show and dance party on October 17 at Mt. Haven Resort. Hostess Steady Mess will be joined by entertainers Anita Mann, Karyn Thomas, Millie Shayntwrite and Skinay Biatch. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. with a cash bar, and the show begins at 10:00 p.m., followed by a dance party with NYC DJ Michael Roselli at 11:00 p.m.

Those who choose to dine at Mt. Haven ahead of the show will get 10 percent off on their meals.

Advance tickets for show and dance cost $25 and can be purchased online by visiting udglbtcenter.blogspot.com. Advance tickets can also be purchased by mail. Checks should be made out to UDGLBT and mailed to Upper Delaware GLBT Center, PO Box 1295, Milford, PA 18337. Include your contact information and seating requests. Tickets at the door will cost $30 for the entire show or $10 for the dance only.
