Eldred’s Hunter Proscia (16:28.68) finished third in the four-team “dual” meet at Monticello on September 15 against the Monties, Liberty and Port Jervis. The fact that Eldred only vies against bigger schools, including Class AA Warwick and Minisink Valley, is a schedule anomaly that denies Yellow Jackets wins and leads to a losing record despite stellar individual efforts.

Fiery soccer frays and mighty running define the week

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NYFire and brimstone were on display as Sullivan West soccer teams took on rival Liberty in back-to-back boys and girls league frays. The pair of games revealed quite a bit about the teams in the early going.
The intense and emotional matchups were fueled by a legacy of years in which each team has acted as the spoiler for the others sectional contention. Months of talk preceded the ongoing tempest, last visited when the two teams tied last October, thereby barring Liberty from a sectional berth.

Sports spotlight

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NYSoccer rose to the forefront this past week with Sullivan Wests teams engaged in heated frays with Liberty, first in a boys match on September 16, and then a day later in a fiery girls tilt. Liberty won the boys match 2-0 with a pair of second-half goals from Conor Siegel and Tim Burgio. Outstanding keeper performances were turned in by Sullivan Wests Austin Sauer and Libertys Will McGuire, who had 10 and eight saves respectively.
