Corrigan posts ‘Signs to Nowhere’ at River Gallery

NARROWSBURG, NY — River Gallery - The Art of Living will host an exhibit by mixed-media artist Dennis Corrigan, “Signs to Nowhere,” from Saturday, September 26 through October 24, with an opening reception on September 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Corrigan is considered by some to be the contemporary Hieronymous Bosch. A longtime resident of Wayne County, PA and professor at Marywood University in Scranton, he is one of the area’s most recognized talents. The River Gallery here presents the originals of both familiar and previously unseen Corrigan images.

Corrigan received worldwide recognition in the 1970s for his renderings of displaced pop political figures in congested and flattened 19th-century interiors. “Queen Victoria Troubled by Flies” and “President Nixon Hiding in a Small Town” were two popular images. Notable establishments commissioning his work include the New York Times, New York Magazine, Random House, Alfred Knopf, and RCA Records. Corrigan wrote and illustrated two adult storybooks, “The Amusement Park” and “The Spotter,” the latter being about a Civil Air Patrol volunteer who, out of boredom and opportunity, is compelled to take up voyeurism.

Corrigan’s work is in the permanent collections of many leading institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Delaware Museum of Art, the Newark Museum of Art, the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Library of Congress, the Arts Council of Great Britain, the California Legion of Honor and others.
