Living Treasure Rocklin has exhibit at Honesdale gallery
HONESDALE, PA The Wayne County Arts Alliance is presenting an exhibit, The Creative Life of Raymond Rocklin, at the Willow River Galley, running through October 17. Rocklin has been designated as a WCAA Living Treasure, and has created a DVD, Life as Art: The Life and Times of Raymond Rocklin, by international photographer, film-maker and WCAA board member Michel Legrand that reveals an intimate glimpse into the life and creative genius of Rocklin.
Rocklin has been a professional artist for 65 years. A Fulbright Scholar and Cooper Union alumnus, he is listed in Whos Who in America Art. A peer to Pollock, DeKooning and Kline, Rocklin is a master sculptor in bronze, wood, silver and terra cotta. Recently he has been creating unique sculpted jewelry.
When asked about the WCAA Living Treasure designation, WCAA executive director Tamara Murray said, Raymond is a treasure. He exemplifies the qualities of imagination, inspiration, perseverance, service and integrity. In his life and work, he has instilled in others a lifetime love of the arts.
Raymond is passionate about art, describing his sculptures as symbols. I intend to continue sculpting to the end. What is wonderful about being an artist is that you never have to retire. Your prospects, in fact, are even better as you get older. You can achieve what you couldnt when you were younger.
The Willow River Gallery is located at 118 Willow Avenue, Honesdale. For more information visit waynecountyartsalliance.org or call 570/253-3013.
