NACL channels spirits
HIGHLAND LAKE, NY NACL Theatre at 110 Highland Lake Road will present Self-Portrait at County Fair on October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11. The two-act play is funny, touching, and follows the traditions of realism, rather than physical or imagistic theatre that the NACL acting company is known for. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday performances begin at 3:00 p.m.
Self-Portrait at County Fair follows the story of a medium who performs a stage show in which he channels deceased spirits that speak to members of his audience. The medium, Miles, played by Toronto actor Ker Wells, has a profound effect on the lives of three people who attend his show at a county fair.
Caroline (Tannis Kowalchuk) comes to the mediums show to hear from her dead husband, but instead learns a shocking story that slowly whittles away at her psyche. Andrew (Glenn Hall) is the venue technician who enjoys hearing from his funny mother from show to show until she lets a secret out that surprises him. Patricia (Sarah Dey Hirshan) wants to hear from her deceased sister, but gets thwarted by the ghost of a Brazilian man who fell in love with her when she was an exchange student.
Directed by Brett Keyser, a Philadelphia-based theatre artist who was last seen at NACL playing the rock-and-roll super star Sherlock Holmes, the play is staged so that the real NACL audience becomes the audience for the psychic show and the actors perform amongst them.
The playwright, Michael Geither, is a Cleveland-based playwright and professor of playwriting at Cleveland State College. He was last seen at NACL as the playwright for The Mystery of Lakewood House.
The performance is supported in part by a grant from Sullivan County Arts and Heritage, individuals and a Recovery Act Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Tickets are $15, $10 for seniors and students. For more information visit nacl.org or call 845/557-0694.
Trampoline needed
The NACL needs to find a small trampoline for the staging of the show. It would be needed from now until October 11. If you can provide a trampoline call 845/557-0694.
