Winners announced in My Catskills Garden contest

LIBERTY, NY — The cottage garden of Lily and Randy Hennig of Cochecton, NY, shown above, won the grand prize in Catskill Harvest Market’s “My Catskills Garden” contest. It encompasses a shade garden, cutting garden, vegetable garden, herbs, fruit trees and berry bushes, and is a home to hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. Second prize went to Ramona Jan, for her creative use of heirloom and indigenous seeds in her quarter-acre garden in Damascus, PA, and third prize went to Kim Stahl of Liberty, for her restoration of a set of steps originally part of the Loomis Village Sanitarium using deer-resistant perennials and native plant species. Larry Boutis won the grand prize for his victory garden in Neversink, NY, and Nancy Jordan of Jeffersonville and Susie Vidal of Youngsville won honorable mentions. Prize amounts ranged from $500 gift certificates for the grand prizes to $75 for honorable mentions. Catskill Harvest Market is a year-round market carrying local farm products located on Route 52 just outside Liberty.
