Summer residents choose to vote locally

KAUNEONGA LAKE, NYWill the newly registered voters in Bethel turn the results of the November elections? That was the unspoken question at a meeting of the town board on September 9 in Kauneonga Lake.
The board is pursuing a legal battle against United Talmudical Academy (UTA) over a shul and community center that UTA constructed on Schultz Road. The town claims the building is unsafe and was built without the proper permits. The Hassidic community that uses the building has leveled charges of racism against the town, which officials and residents have vigorously denied.

ECS a work in progress

ELDRED, NYFor much of the summer, Eldred Central High School (ECS) was like an island, surrounded by a moat of mud, according to ECS superintendent Berneice Brownell. The mucky mess, created by an over-abundance of rainfall, heavily impacted construction activities occurring at the school throughout that time, resulting in a one-day delay to opening day and slowing ongoing efforts to complete and open a new addition by mid-October.

NPS super heading home

UPPER DELAWARE RIVER REGIONIts been an interesting ride, said Vidal Martinez repeatedly, as he prepares to relinquish the reins of his 18-month stint as superintendent of the National Park Service (NPS) Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River (UDSRR). Martinez has accepted a position as superintendent of Prince William Forest Park (PWF), a 15,000-acre park in northern Virginia.
