Historic churches tour
WAYNE COUNTY, PA Historic Wayne County churches, good food and the magnificent autumn countryside make this years Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS) Church Bus Tour on Saturday, October 10, one of the hottest tickets of the season.
Tour leader Gloria McCullough, WCHSs research librarian, has put together a tour of eight churches in Northern Wayne County. Volunteers will be present to provide a history of the church and congregation and to point out any unique architectural features.
The bus will leave at 9:00 a.m. sharp from the Honesdale Borough parking lot behind the Wayne County Historical Society at 810 Main St. Starting at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, built in the New England style by some of the countys earliest settlers and the oldest church building in the county, the bus will next stop at the Whites Valley United Methodist Church. Next, the bus will head for Orson and Lake Como, to visit their historic United Methodist churches. The group will have lunch at the Shehawken United Methodist Church.
After lunch come visits to the Sherman Bible Chapel, birthplace of the Fresh Air Fund; the Body of Christ (formerly Methodist) church in Starrucca and the Starrucca Baptist Church, where at the end of the tour the group will enjoy a chicken and biscuit dinner.
Price is $35 for WCHS members and $37 for non-members and includes both lunch and dinner. Deadline for reservations is September 25.
