Open house with eats at Willow Wisp Organic Farm
ABRAHAMSVILLE, PA There will be an open house at Willow Wisp Organic Farm on Saturday, September 19 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Owners Greg Swartz and Tannis Kowlachuk are recruiting the skills of several area chefs to prepare a selection of farmstead dishes with Willow Wisps products for a late afternoon sampling.
Swartz moved to the Upper Delaware River Valley almost 10 years ago to do an apprenticeship on an organic vegetable farm. After working on several farms in Sullivan County and benefiting from the knowledge of his mentors, Swartz joined forces with his wife Tannis Kowlchuk to purchase a farm in 2007. The 2009 growing season marks the official launch of Willow Wisp Organic Farm.
Swartz and Kowalchuk grow a diverse mix of vegetables, cut flowers and herbs. Future plans include a broad range of small fruits as well as pasture-raised organic eggs. This first year the farm has marketed its products at the Callicoon Farmers Market and to several retail outlets in Callicoon.
The farm plans to launch a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program for 2010. In the CSA model, people buy a share in the farms harvest, and they come to the farm once a week to pick up a seasonal mix of vegetables. The farm plans on creating a year-round model of farming by growing crops that can be stored throughout the winter and supplementing with greenhouse greens.
RSVPs for the open house are requested but not required. The farm is located in Abrahamsville four miles from Callicoon, at 25 Stone House Road. For more information email greg@willowwisporganic.com or call 570/224-8013.
