Lumberland arsonist arrested

By FRITZ MAYER

GLEN SPEY, NY — Detectives from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Joshua Hunt of Glen Spey on two counts of arson on September 2 in connection with two suspicious fires that occurred at the Mountain View Resort on High Road in Glen Spey in August.

The first fire occurred August 7 in a carriage house on the property. Although the structure was unoccupied at the time, firefighter Roger Bisland of the Lumberland Fire Department was injured at the scene. On August 19, a four-room bungalow on the property caught fire. In both cases, Joshua Hunt, who was a caretaker at the resort and a lieutenant with the Lumberland Fire Department, called in the alarm.

Hunt confessed to sheriff’s detectives on September 1, which led to his arrest. Hunt was arraigned before Judge Martin Miller and sent to Sullivan County Jail. New York State Police, Lumberland constables and the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire assisted the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
