JEANETTE ANN KENNEDY
Jeanette Ann Kennedy of Evans City, PA, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at her residence in the company of her family. She was 77.
The daughter of John and Eva Weber, she was born July 6, 1932 in Yulan, NY. She was a graduate of Eldred Central School, Eldred, NY.
Jeanette was employed as a waitress, retiring in 1990. She was also a mother and housewife. She was a member and president of the Harmony-Evans City VFW #449 in Evans City, PA and a volunteer driver for Meals-on-Wheels, among many other volunteer activities.
She is survived by her dear friend and caregiver, Ronald Cahall of Callery, PA; her former husband, Richard E. Hallock of Elmwood, NE; daughters Penny Palmer and her husband, Terry of Missouri and their son, Tyler, Georgette Rose Cahall of West Sunbury, PA and her children, Becky, Tiffany and Ronald Charles, Kathleen Kivler and her husband, Jerry of Woodridge, NY and their children, Charles, Jessica, Amanda, Cortney and Joshua and Marilyn Hallock of New York; son John Hallock of Elmwood and his children, Christine, John and Jerrod; two stepsons, Richard P. Kennedy of Butler, PA and Brian W. Kennedy of Allison Park, PA; sisters, Virginia Donahue of Montana and Chrys Thompson and her husband, William of Yulan; brothers Dave Weber and his wife, Marie of Yulan, Rodger Weber and his wife, Ruth of Binghamton, NY and Edward OConnell of Sumter, SC; and 21 additional grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; dear friends, Cletus Miller & Kiley Rose; and her granddaughter, Sue and Jeff and Bill and Sallie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Bus Kennedy; daughter, Annette Rebecca Cahall; sons Kenneth and Richard Hallock; step-daughter, Carol Leisure; sisters, Betty Weber and Gail OConnell; brother, Fred Weber; granddaughter, Anita Hallock; godson and nephew, Robbie Case; nephew, Charles (Chip) Wilson; and sister-in-law, Chookie Wilson.
Visitation and funeral services were held at Boylan Funeral Home, Inc., Evans City, PA. Interment will be private for family.

WESLEY LAWRENCE
Wesley Lawrence went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Skylyn Place Nursing, Spartanburg, SC. Formerly from Hawley, PA, he moved to Gaffney, SC to live with his son. He was 78.
The only child of Thelma Vivian Shook and Wesley Morris Lawrence, he was born in Wayne County, PA on December 2, 1930. He grew up with his uncles family, Harry Shook and graduated from Damascus High.
Wesley was retired from the United States Post Office. He served in the Air Force in England and Roswell, NM with a top secret nuclear clearance during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter and was known as the Daniel Boone of the Poconos. Wesley was very active in the community and served as Boy Scout master, National Sky Patrol, National Rifle Association and member of Cricket Hill Golf Club near Hawley.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Robert and spouse Virginie and grand-children Chloe and Dylan in Everett, WA, Daniel and spouse Marilu and grandchild Russell in Gaffney, Scott in Scranton, PA and Patrick and spouse Michelle in Greenfield Center, NY; and a daughter, Dawn in Lebanon, PA.
A Mass for his blessing was held on Thursday August 20, 2009 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg, SC.
DONALD SCOTT MOHAN SR
Donald Scott Mohan Sr., died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Twin Cedars Assisted Living Center in Shohola, PA. He was 89.
The son of Arthur D. Mohan and Bertha L. Hoffman Mohan in Allendale, NJ, he was born August 7, 1920.
Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as an aviation machinists mate and flew combat missions in the Battle of the North Atlantic and in North Africa as a tail gunner. He was a welder and retired from Marlow Pumps in Midland Park, NJ. He was a longtime member of Archer United Methodist Church in Allendale and the XYZ Seniors Club.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Jane Belinsky Mohan. They were married September 21, 1946.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary Mohan and companion, Judy Jakaitis of Gettysburg, PA; his daughter-in-law, Sherry Mohan of Port Jervis, NY; two grandchildren, Kate Fields and husband, Travis of Hinesville, GA and Jack Mohan of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Jessie Gasskill of New Paltz, NY and Janet Rand of Jupiter, FL; a niece and several nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Donald S. Mohan, Jr. on October 3, 2008 and his brother, James Mohan in January 2008.
Visitation was held on Thursday, August 20 at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave., Ramsey, NJ. Interment followed with graveside services at the family plot in George Washington Memorial Park (Paramus and Century roads), Paramus, NJ.

HNAT POLUHA
Hnat Poluha of Glen Spey, NY, a longtime area resident, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 87.
He was born January 1, 1922 in Ukraine. Hnat married Klymentyna Gawur 61 years ago in Mittenwald, Germany on November 25, 1947. He worked for ITT Continental Baking Company in East Brunswick, NJ. Hnat was an active member of St. Volodymyrs Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey, NY.
A family statement reads, Dad was a dedicated and loving husband to Klymentyna, father to Myron and Olga and grandfather to Victoria. We love you and will miss you dearly. You will always be in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife, Klymentyna Poluha at home; son, Myron Poluha of Sarasota, FL; daughter, Olga Rakowsky and her husband, George of Pomona, NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jaroslaw Jerry and Rosalia Gawur of Glen Spey; granddaughter, Victoria Rakowsky of Pomona; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 20 with a Liturgy Mass in St. Volodymyrs Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey. Burial will be at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Hamptonburg, NY.

FREDERICK PRICE
Frederick Price of Beach Lake, PA, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at home after a lengthy illness. He was 82.
He was born in Scranton, PA. Frederick served in the United States Army, the Coast Guard and the Army Air Division during WWII. He was a policeman and sheriffs deputy for the town of Honesdale, PA. Fritz worked for many years in law enforcement both as a Honesdale patrolman and more recently as a Wayne County Sheriffs Deputy. He was well known for his talent and ability in making custom knives.
He is survived by his wife, the former Nina Jean Mead; three sons, Frederick Price of Pinnacle, NC, Brett Price and wife, Ellen of Dobson, NC and Jason Hitchcock and wife, Alison of Rowland, PA; four daughters, Sharon Blythe and husband, Jim of Kannapolis, NC, Patty Champion and husband, Andy of Asheville, NC, Sammi Hitchcock of Beach Lake and Tammi Reid and husband, John of Hawley, PA; and eight grandchildren, Wesley, Cody, Meradith, Alexandra, Shawn, Dylan, Garrett and Lindsay.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Rickard.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

JOSEPH SCHATZ
Joseph Schatz of Myrtle Beach, SC and formerly of Milford, PA, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was 84.
The son of the late Max and the late Frieda Chervin Schatz, he was born February 28, 1925 in New York, NY,
Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Pat & Joes Deli in Dingmans Ferry, PA. He was a former member of Temple Beth-El, Port Jervis and Temple Beth-El, Myrtle Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jean Sheridan Schatz. He was formerly married to the late Ann Gumplemayer Schatz, who died in 1986.
He is also survived by a son, Michael Schatz and wife, Jo Ann of Warminster, PA; daughters, Janet Kupcha and husband, Joseph of Dingmans Ferry, PA and Evelyn Deutsch and partner, Joy Hilliker of Allentown, PA; stepdaughter, Veronica Christensen and husband, Frank of Columbia, MD; stepsons, George Vitchers and wife, Elise of Milford and Charles Vitchers and wife, Holly of Shohola, PA; stepdaughters, Dolores Baker and husband, Billy of Shohola and Theresa Duden of Dingmans Ferry; four grandchildren, Rebecca, Andrew, Melissa and Zachary; 16 step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Samuel and Julius Schatz.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis, NY with Rabbi Dr. Burton Mindick officiating. Burial was held at Milford Cemetery, Milford, PA.
ELWIN A. SHEARD
Elwin A. Sheard of Calkins, PA passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was 84.
The eldest son of the late Arthur Sheard and Hattie Frazier Sheard, he was born in Calkins. Elwin was a graduate of Damascus High School and Pennsylvania Institute School of Trade as a mason. He served in the military as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. After working numerous odd jobs he became a caretaker in West Damascus for PennDOT, and later worked as a truck driver for Goodman Cinder Block hauling blocks into New York City. He retired from PennDOT in 1987. He was a faithful member of the Labor Grange and Calkins Union Cemetery Association, Calkins, and Damascus Historical Society, in Damascus, PA.
Elwin was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Blum Sheard.
Grandpa Sheard was a quiet man, though not without robust humor. He was comfortable to muse with a grunt and a smile. He was a good man, a family man and he will be sorely missed.
He is survived by sons, Eugene and Carol Sheard of Jim Thorpe, PA, and Ronald and Bonnie Sheard of Calkins; five granddaughters, Amanda and Jason Ryan of Lansdale, PA, Theresa and Patrick Ulrich of Berkley, CA, Laura Sheard of Seattle, WA, Jackie and James Swendsen of Calkins and Tami and James Minigh Jr. of Daytona Beach, FL; four great grandsons, Aaron and Ethan Swendsen and James III and Zachery Minigh; and brother and sisters, Clinton and Betty Sheard of Honesdale, Marion Gries of Calkins and Rachel James of Greentown, PA.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with internment at the Calkins Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calkins Union Cemetery Association, 581 Boyds Mills Road, Milanville, PA 18443 where he was caretaker until his death.
