LAWRENCE M. CARD

Lawrence M. Card of Smallwood, NY passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 6 months old.

Son of Lawrence W. Card and Julianna Schulze, he was born February 18, 2009 in Harris, NY.

He is survived by his parents, Lawrence W. Card and Julianna Schulze, at home; paternal grandparents Lawrence Card III and Darlene Card of Swan Lake, NY; maternal grandmother Laressa Anna Malick of Liberty, NY; two sisters, Cierra and Annabella Card, both at home; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were on Thursday, August 13 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Kauneonga Lake, NY. The Rev. Roy Shaffer officiated.

Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.


HELEN LOUISA CHANDLER

Helen Louisa Chandler of Sparrowbush, NY passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Belle Reve, Milford, PA. She was 92.

She was born on February 11, 1917 in Sparrowbush, the daughter of the late Frank and Helen V. Gilson Cherry. She retired from the H & M Knitting Mill, Port Jervis, NY.

Helen married James R. Chandler Sr. on September 15, 1938, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church.

Helen is survived by her son, James R. Chandler Jr. and wife, Mary of Sparrowbush; daughters Joy Ryerson and husband David of Glen Spey, NY and Cherry Behrens and husband Roy of Melbourne, FL; her sister, Anna Campbell of Matamoras, PA; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by grandson Kevin Chandler; sisters Katherine “Kitty” Cherry and Grace Cherry; and brothers Edgar and Philip Cherry.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 14 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, NY with The Rev. Amy Garret officiating. Interment took place at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.

MICHAEL THOMAS DILLON

Michael Thomas Dillon of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at home. He was 63.

He was born July 19, 1946 in Hackensack, NJ, the son of the late Frank and the late Cecilia Connelly Dillon.

He worked as a train engineer for the New Jersey Transit for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. During his time, he was awarded many medals including Parachute Rigger Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Port Jervis VFW Post 161 and the 82nd Airborne.

A family statement reads: “Mike was a warm-hearted person who loved his family dearly, especially his grandson, Benjamin. He lived life to its fullest, enjoying every moment. Mike was very proud to have served his country during the Vietnam War. Mike was loved by many and will be greatly missed.”

Survivors include his wife Nancy Dillon at home; son Michael McGarvey of Vooresville, NY; daughter Stacy Koebel and husband Andrew of Fort Myers, FL; sisters Kathy Collins and husband Jim of Yulan, NY, Patricia Dillon of St. Petersburg, FL and Clarice Dillon and her spouse Shari Hendrick of Port Jervis; stepson Brian Scales of Sarasota, FL; stepdaughter Jennifer Scales of Port Jervis; grandsons Dylan and Benjamin; mother-in-law Laura Miglionico of Port Jervis; brother-in-law Michael Miglionico and wife Elaine of Kerhonkson; sister-in-law Jo-Ann Clune and husband Pat of Port Jervis; special aunt Fanny Lore of Port Jervis; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 13 with a prayer service at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., Port Jervis, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis.

MARGARET ‘PEGGY’ GOLDEN

Margaret “Peggy” Golden of North Branch, NY died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. She was 89.

The daughter of the late Percy Bowers and Elizabeth Breen Bowers, she was born July 7, 1920 in Glen Wild, NY. She was the widow of Jack Golden who predeceased her in 1986.

Peggy worked for several years as a waitress at the Miss Monticello Diner and in a radio factory during World War II. After marrying Jack; she devoted her life to her family. She moved to Florida in the late 1980s and spent a lot of time with her companion, Ralph; both were active in ballroom dancing until Ralph passed away in 2006.

She is survived by a son, Jim Golden and wife Anne Bei Golden of North Egremont, MA; daughter Patty Armstrong and husband Frank of Roscoe, NY; sister Dorothy Driscoll of Kauneonga Lake, NY; grandchildren Katie and Peter; great-grandson Kade; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 19 at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, Monticello, NY. Burial followed at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

LESTER F. HUST

Lester F. Hust, of Youngsville, NY, a retired mason contractor and a lifetime resident of the area, died August 10, 2009 at home. He was 89.

The son of Lester and Louise Esselmann Hust, he was born March 1, 1920 in Jeffersonville, NY. He was the widower of Jeane Edith Flaccus Hust. They were married June 7, 1953.

Lester was co-owner of Hust & LaBagh Mason Contractors; a member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen; a member of Emmett Turner Post 276 American Legion; a former councilman in the Town of Callicoon, NY; a former Justice of the Peace in the Town of Callicoon; past president and a founding member of Stony Brook Hunting Club, Cochecton, NY; a member of Masonic Lodge 521 Free and Accepted Masons and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his children, Valerie Doolittle and husband Kim of Barneveld, NY, Duane Hust and wife Keyna of Jeffersonville and Sherrie Hust of Youngsville; and grandchildren Amanda Patterson of Vestal, NY and Ian and Emma Doolittle of Barneveld, NY.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jeane Edith Flaccus Hust; and sisters Louise Simpson and Doris Turshen.

Services were on Friday, August 14 at the funeral home.

EVELYN G. WEBER

Evelyn G. Weber of Honesdale PA, died Monday, August 10, 2009 in Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart, PA. She was 87.

She was married to the late Wesley Weber, who died in 2007. They were married for 64 years.

Evelyn was born in Beach Lake, PA, the daughter of the late Leon and Christine Peterson Franklin. She had attended the Free Methodist Church in Beach Lake.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph Weber and wife Connie of Honesdale, Gary Weber of Waymart and Stephen Weber and wife Carol of White Mills, PA; grandchildren David, Tom, Tracy, Colleen, Jason, Christine, Erin and Ryan; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Franklin, Cyrus Franklin, Eugene Franklin, Benjamin Franklin, and Joseph Franklin; and sister Edith Warring.

Cremation was held at the Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA. A private memorial service will be held in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale at the convenience of the family with interment in the Indian Orchard Cemetery.
