Highland launches website, sets hearing for possible closure of Clark Road

By SANDY LONG

ELDRED, NY — The Town of Highland stepped into the digital age with the launch of its long-awaited website last week. Supervisor Tina Palecek praised the new site and its designer, Dorene Warner, a local business owner based in Barryville, at the town meeting on August 11.

“The website is absolutely amazingly gorgeous,” said Palecek. “It is user friendly with a great deal of useful information.” Palecek urged residents to visit the new site at www.highlandnewyork.net . It was created by WDesign .

In other matters, the board set a public hearing for October 13 at 6:00 p.m. in response to a road abandonment request to receive comments on possible closure of Clark Road. Highland Field and Stream Gun Club made the request for administrative transfer from public to private authority of approximately 2.5 miles of the road.

The Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club and Clark Road resident Christopher J. Scully oppose the closure.

“We want to hear all sides of the issue before we make a decision,” said Palecek.

In response to several complaints regarding safety, right-of-way issues and adherence to town code, the code enforcement office will begin evaluating signage in Barryville. Meanwhile, the assessor’s office has been completing a road-by-road photographic update of properties within the Town of Highland.
