Sculpture garden tour concludes summer-long exhibit
CALLICOON, NY Callicoon Fine Arts will conclude its summer-long inaugural exhibition All Suffering Soon to End! with a tour of Forrest Myers and Debra Arch Myers sculpture garden at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22. The public is invited to meet at 2649 River Road, one mile north of the Callicoon Bridge on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River.
Over the past 20 years, Forrest Myers and Debra Arch Myers have created a unique landscape comprised of sculpture and gardens. The tour is a rare opportunity to visit one of the Upper Delaware River Valleys unheralded treasures, bringing together the work of a major American sculptor and a visionary landscape designer.
Since first acquiring the land in 1988, the Myers have transformed what was a derelict evergreen nursery into a home for 17 of Forrest Myers large-scale outdoor sculptures. While not site specific, the sculptures, several dating from the 1960s, are specifically sited in gardens ranging from perennial and vegetable beds to bog and native environments, all designed by Debra Arch Myers.
The site of the sculpture garden was once home to the Curtis nurseries which, at its height, occupied 500 acres and was the areas largest employer. The nursery was founded in response to Frederick Law Olmsted Jr.s call for native evergreen trees and shrubs needed to populate the New York City parks designed by his father, Central and Prospect Park.
