Frost Valley offers Girl Scout badge opportunities

CLARYVILLE, NY — Girl Scouts and Brownies can choose from a number of themed weekends providing badge work this fall at Frost Valley YMCA. Girl Scout Equestrian Weekend, September 11 to 13, is geared to Scouts earning Horse Lover and Horse Fan badges. At Girl Scout Wellness Weekend September 18 to 20, Be My Best and A Healthier You badge work will be offered. From Friday to Sunday, October 2 to 4, Girl Scout Down on the Farm Weekend will take place at the Frost Valley Educational farm for completion of Food Power and Live on a Farm badges. The Girl Scout Adventure Badge Weekend is scheduled for November 6 to 8 for completion of the Adventure Sports badge, which includes challenging outdoor activities like low ropes, tower climbing, knot tying, tree identification and shelter building.

‘Moonstruck’ under the stars

LIBERTY, NY — This week’s free film showing in LaPolt Park will be “Moonstruck,” starring Cher in an Oscar-winning performance. The show will start at the North Main Street Stage at about 8:00 p.m.

The film, set in Brooklyn, also stars Nicholas Cage, Olympia Dukakis in another Oscar-winning performance, Danny Aiello and Vincent Gardenia. Screenwriter John Patrick Shanley garnered an Oscar for best screenplay. The American Film Institute calls it one of the top 10 romantic comedies of all time.
