Twisted Sisters
LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY The Catskill Art Society (CAS) will present Twisted Sisters, a group exhibition featuring the work of artists Suzanne BeVier, Elizabeth Ennis and Ramona Jan at the CAS Arts Center at 48 Main Street, Livingston Manor from August 15 through September 27. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, August 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., preceded by an artists talk at 4:00 p.m.
A common theme in the work of these artists is the portrayal of dolls and/or plastic figures that are either found objects or memorabilia from their life. BeVier, a resident of Roscoe, found most of the plastic toys depicted in her photographs from the Downsville dump or a local store. She uses these toys to both raise questions and show the humor of this series of images, which will be presented in a story format. Ennis, also a resident of Roscoe, will be presenting a series of photographs that create tableaus. Fabrics, objects, slide projections and video shots her version of a movie still will serve as the backdrop of the work made up of personal effects.
Jan, a resident of Damascus, PA, will present a soft doll collection that was originally made for her now-teenage daughter. For the exhibition, she has redressed, renamed and reinvented the 26-member doll collection, which is based on chapters in her own life.
Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The CAS Arts Center is wheelchair accessible.
