JOAN CAROLYN DIBBLE

Mrs. Joan Carolyn Dibble of Forestburgh, NY and a lifetime resident of the area, died Monday, July 27, 2009 at home with her family by her side. She was 70.

She was born November 11, 1938 in Middletown, NY, the daughter of the late Floyd and Helen Markel O’Dell.

On June 16, 1956, Joan Carolyn O’Dell married Robert Frances Dibble at the North Congregational Church in Middletown, NY.

Joan was a member of the Forestburgh Seniors and an avid bingo player in Shohola and Middletown. A family statement reads: “Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She raised her own five children and helped so many other children that she raised as her own in Middletown. The family would like to thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, especially Felicia Moon, the wonderful care they gave.”

Survivors include her husband, Robert F. Dibble Sr. at home; sons John Dibble and wife Jodi of Matamoras, PA, Robert Dibble Jr. and wife Terry of Kauneonga Lake, NY, Ronald Dibble and wife Wendy of Shohola, PA and Brian Dibble of Forestburgh, NY; daughter Deanna Dibble Padilla of Phoenix, AZ; sisters Eleanor Demerest of Thomaston, Georgia, Beverly Tyrian of Middletown and Helen Rokitko and husband Andrew of Middletown; 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by brother George Wells; and brothers-in-law Frank Tyrian and Eddie Demerest.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

RUSSELL W. JENKINS SR

Russell W. Jenkins Sr., of Cuddebackville, NY and a lifetime resident of the area, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at home. He was 78.

He was born June 6, 1931 in Warwick, NY, the son of the late Edward and Abby Riggs Jenkins.

Russell was married to the late Beatrice VanRiper Jenkins, who died on March 15, 1996.

Russell was born and raised working on farms throughout the area. He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ and later for Elaine’s Fashions in Port Jervis, NY. A family statement reads: “Russell was a loving Father and Grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.’’

Surviving are his son, Russell Jenkins Jr. and wife Cindy, Lancaster, PA; daughters Susan Lemin and companion Russ Ludemann, Cuddebackville, NY and Bonnie Arista, Splendora, TX; brother Alex Jenkins, Glen Spey, NY; sisters Ida Stephanatos, Kingston, NY and Edith Nagy, Columbus, GA; grandchildren Candice DeGraw, Shelley Dauberman, Jose Arista Jr., Amanda Arista, Daniel Arista, Adrian Jenkins, Edward Flores IV and Dominga Flores; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandsons.

He is predeceased by two grandsons, Michael Musser and Russell W. Jenkins III; sisters Martha and Josephine; brother Edward Jenkins Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis, on Thursday, August 6 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.

HELEN H. SIMPSON

Helen H. Simpson of Roscoe, NY, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Facility, Roscoe. She was 95.

The daughter of the late George and Anna Landeck Hillriegel, she was born December 16, 1913 in Fremont, NY.

Helen was a member of the United Church of Roscoe, a former member of the Roscoe-Rockland Grange, the Rebecca Lodge of Roscoe, and the Roscoe PTA.

Survivors include four daughters, Ruth Pippo and husband John of Hortonville, NY, Shirley Fuller and husband Willie of Tulsa, OK, Beatrice Bloom and husband E. Vernon of Napa, CA and Thelma Rieping and husband Heinrich of Dumont, NJ; one son, Lester Hillriegel and wife Margaret of Callicoon, NY; one sister, Anna Duncan of Fairport, NY; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kennie E. Simpson, whom she married July 9, 1932 in Hamburg, NJ; one sister, Lillian Will; and four brothers, Harold, Arthur, Albert and George Hillriegel; and one grandson, Donald Gatrell.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 3 at the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe, with the Rev. Paul Cicio officiating. Burial was made in the Bon Air Cemetery, Roscoe.

LOWELL R. STANTON

Lowell R. Stanton of Swan Lake, NY, a lifetime area resident, died on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at home.

He was the son of the late Roy and Ruth Crumley Stanton and was born on January 10, 1945 in Monticello, NY.

Lowell was a loving, hard-working family man who loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a heavy equipment operator who retired from the Town of Bethel after 30 years of service.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country from 1965 to 1967. He was a member of the Mongaup Game Preserve, the NYS Trappers Association, the National Rifle Association and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Survivors include his wife of 40-years, Eunice Dailey Stanton at home; daughter Tammy LaPolt and fiancé Keith LaPolt of Smallwood, NY; three sons, Scott Stanton of Mongaup Valley, NY, Jason Stanton and wife Lorie of Ferndale, NY and Joey Dailey and wife Laura of New Windsor, NY; two granddaughters, Paige and Ashley LaPolt; sisters Marion Vassmer of Kauneonga Lake, NY, Yvonne Cunningham of Swan Lake and Barbara Weiss and husband Norm of Mongaup Valley; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Joan Dailey; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; and one special cousin, Jean Scott.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 1 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Kauneonga Lake, with the Rev. Randolph Yerkes officiating. Burial with military honors was in Union Cemetery, Mongaup Valley.

LINDA LEE STEELE

Mrs. Linda Lee Steele of Barryville, NY, died Friday, July 31, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 48.

She was born April 21, 1961 in Paterson, NJ, the daughter of the late Stephen and the late Maryjane Hopper Speshock.

A family statement reads: “Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister to all her family. She will be missed by her many friends and relatives.”

Survivors include her husband Christopher Steele at home; two daughters, Christina Steele and companion Steven Ogden of Slate Hill, NY and Janie Steele and companion Christopher Ramm of Narrowsburg, NY; three sisters, Nellie Helfritz of Barryville, Maryjane Gallety of California and Pamela Speshock of Florida; three grandchildren, Stephen and Jayden Ogden and Amber-Lynn Ramm; mother-in-law Catherine Steele of Matamoras, PA; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Richard K. Steele; and her brother-in-law, Thomas Miszchuk.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 4 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., in Port Jervis, NY. Cremation was held at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.

A private family burial will be held at Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro, NY.
