Cutting Garden reprises its From the Ground Up festival
YOUNGSVILLE, NY The Cutting Garden will hold its annual festival celebrating everything that is grown, created and produced in Sullivan County on Saturday, August 8 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Anne Hart, co-owner of the The Cutting Garden, said the annual outdoor festival provides a chance to bring together people who grow and create to show visitors and remind local residents just how much the county has to offer.
With more than 23 vendors and participants, the festival will feature locally grown flowers, food and plants, quilts, pottery, photos, jewelry, woodwork and more. Every half hour there will be a special demonstration given by the participants. The Shandelee Spinners will show how a spinning wheel works, and will teach twist-pull spinning and how to make dye with Kool-Aid. Three members of NACL Theatre in Highland Lake will perform short solo pieces, and artists from all over the county will be using the garden as inspiration and subject matter for their art form. Carolyn Duke of Duke Pottery will demonstrate hand-building techniques, looking directly at the garden for inspiration and texturing tools. Andrew Leslie Phillips and Maria Grimaldi will demonstrate how to start a garden bed using techniques learned in permaculture. There will be a scroll saw demonstration and Iris Gillingham of Wild Roots farm will showcase her sheep. Joining the sheep will be a goat from Apple Pond Farm.
There will also be an oral history booth, where narratives by visitors who know about local history will be recorded.
