Osborne recreates Lewis & Clark journey
NARROWSBURG, NY An Evening with The Journals of Lewis & Clark, featuring Minisink Valley historian Peter Osborne, will be presented at Tusten Town Hall on Wednesday, August 12 at 7:00 p.m. The Tusten Historical Society sponsors the program.
Several years ago, Peter Osborne retraced, as closely as possible, Lewis & Clarks 1803-1806 expedition to the Pacific Ocean. Combining this experience with the original journals, he brings to life the difficulties faced by the explorers. The journey, headed by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, was the first American overland expedition to the Pacific Coast and back. Over 100 species of animals and approximately 170 plants were documented. The new knowledge about the native inhabitants and natural resources sparked American interest in the West and strengthened the nations claim to the area.
