Improvisational music mixes with cool art films

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — Christmas Decorations, an unusual ensemble of talented musicians, will create an evening of multimedia performance involving live ambient sound and experimental films on Saturday, August 1 at 8:00 p.m. at the NACL Theatre, 110 Highland Lake Road. Rather than the music scoring the films, the films will provide supportive imagery to the sound. The artists will be in residence at NACL in the days leading up to the show and will compose music for the event. The group will also improvise around the film and video presented on two screens.

The band began in 2001 as the duo of Nick Forté and Steve Silverstein, added Peter Kerlin several years later and in 2007 became a quartet with the addition of Kurt Knuth. From its inception, the band has focused on a blend of various styles of experimental electronic music; from post-punk to improvised electro-acoustic composition, its stylistic center always changing. The band has made several albums, including “Model 91,” kranky records, 2002, and most recently “Far Flung Hum” on their own vinyl imprint, Wodger, in 2008.

Tickets cost $8 and can be purchased at the NACL door the evening of the performance.
