GEORGE T. HIMBERG
George T. Himberg lived in Long Eddy, NY, for the past 10 years. He died Sunday, May 17, 2009 after a very long illness connected to his service as a professional fireman. He was 62.
He attended Valley Forge Military Academy in Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1967. In 1969 he joined the New York City fire department until his retirement. He received two unit citations, one for his initiative in saving a baby. He was a life member of Chapter 32 Queens Vietnam Veterans of America. He testified at Congressional hearings on Agent Orange to secure funds for affected vets. He was a life member of the VFW.
He will be remembered for his generosity and willingness (even when very sick) to help strangers. He saved many lives. His sense of humor was well known.
He was preceded in death by his father, George T. Himberg Sr., his wife, Ann Marie and a nephew, Michael, in 1994.
He is survived by his mother, Mary; his beloved friend Therese Boucher; her children Nathalie and Karen; her six grandchildren especially Ricky and Kristiana Pena; sisters Debra and husband Steve Nachman and Janice and husband Thomas Hildebrand; and two nieces.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 10:30 at Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Queens. Private burial will take place in Pinelawn National Cemetery on July 21, 2009. Another Memorial Mass is planned for Long Eddy in the fall, date to be announced.
MYKOLA KASZUBA
Mr. Mykola Kaszuba of Glen Spey, NY, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center. He was 85.
He was born May 13, 1924 in Ukraine, the son of the late Ivan and the late Anna Bucher Kaszuba.
He worked as a master tailor in Germany before moving to America, where he worked as a tailor for Majestic and Genesco in Ridgefield, NJ. He was a member of St. Volodymyrs Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Maria; one son, John Kashuba and wife Margaret of Jersey City, NJ; three grandchildren, Katherine, John and Michael; and six great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Walter Kashuba.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 7, with a Liturgy Mass in St. Volodymyrs Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating.
Burial was at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
DOROTHY E. LORENZ
Dorothy E. Lorenz, a longtime resident of Tyler Hill, PA, passed away at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA on Saturday, July 4, 2009. She was 91.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 13, 1917 to the late Lester and Edna Smith Bourke.
She was the widow of Alois W. Lorenz, who had passed away on December 5, 1999. Dorothy was a member of St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg, NY.
She is survived by sons Peter Lorenz and wife Jean of Long Island, NY, and Mark Lorenz and his wife Diana of Damascus, PA; daughters Geraldine Horgan of Charlestown, WV and Christine Silvestri and husband Frank of Connecticut; brother Lester Bourke and wife Marilyn of Margaretville, NY; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg, NY. Rev. William Scully O.F.M. officiated. Christian burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Narrowsburg.

PHYLLIS R. OSTERHOUT
Mrs. Phyllis R. Osterhout of Sparrowbush, NY a lifetime resident of the area, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 at St. Josephs Place. She was 92.
She was born July 26, 1916 in Sparrowbush, the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Cherry Bodensieck.
She was married to John F. Osterhout, who passed away in 1973. She was a member of the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church, Eastern Stars River Chapter #33, and a former member of the Sparrowbush Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary.
A family statement read: She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to spend her time knitting. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors are one son, John P. Osterhout and wife Denise of Glen Spey, NY; daughter Barbara Peck and husband Pete of Keuka, NY; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, James and Fred Bodensieck; and sister Ruth Dudko.
Funeral services were held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.

CAROL V. VANLOAN
Carol V. VanLoan of Kiamesha Lake, NY passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 4, 2009. She was 74.
She was the daughter of the late Lillian and Floyd Lewis. She was born on September 30, 1934 in Andes, NY. She was the widow of Allen VanLoan, who passed away in 1984.
Carol loved her computer and would enjoy playing her computer games. She also loved shopping, camping and fishing, and collecting dolls.
She is survived by seven children, Debra Lewis of Kiamesha Lake, Allen VanLoan and wife Jane of Monticello, NY, Robert VanLoan and wife Sophia of Alaska, Daniel VanLoan and wife Vickie of Liberty, NY, Richard VanLoan and wife Lena of Mongaup Valley, NY, Annie VanLoan-Ezeldin of Liberty and Edwin Lewis of Kiamesha Lake; 21 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance was held on Tuesday, July 7, at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Woodbourne, NY.
AMELIA ANNE WEST
Mrs. Amelia Anne West of Pond Eddy, NY, a lifetime resident of the area, died July 6, 2009. She was 75.
She was born June 30, 1934 in Pond Eddy, the daughter of the late Howard W. and Erma J. Maillet Brown. Amelia was married to Theodore Ted West who died May 18, 1983.
She was a member of Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Womens Group. Amelia was also very helpful to many of her friends in need. A family statement reads: Amelia loved the Lord, her family and her animals. She was a loving, caring and compassionate mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Everyone who knew her was touched by her generosity. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are son Charles West and wife Elaine of Mobley, MO; daughter Virginia Palmer and husband Carl of Villa Rica, GA; daughter Erma Todd and husband Larry of Sparrowbush, NY; son Paul West of Laurel, MD; daughter Leona Morgan and husband James of Sparrowbush; brothers Howard Brown of Montague, NJ, Robert Brown and wife Laura Lee of Dallas, PA, Joseph Brown of Pond Eddy and Jack OConner and wife Mary of Hancock, NY; sister Elizabeth Carr of Pond Eddy; granddaughters Sabrina McAuliff and husband Patrick of Villa Rica, GA, Kristinia Palmer of New Orleans, LA and Joslyn West of Macon, MD; great-granddaughter Madison Amelia McAuliff; and also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral home, 100 E Main St., Port Jervis, NY, on Thursday, July 9, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, 122 Berm Church Rd., Pond Eddy, with The Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating. Burial will be at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey, NY.

HERBERT W. WILBUR
Herbert W. Wilbur of Beach Lake, PA, a retired gas production supervisor with 37 years of service, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. He was 85.
The son of the late James and Florence Wilbur, he was born August 14, 1923, in Heath, MA. Herbert was a WWII Navy veteran who served on the U.S. North Carolina as an ammunition technician. He was a former chairman of National Camper Hikers Association and a founder of Sea Cliff Campers. A family statement reads: Herbert was a loving father who was a mentor to his children and his friends. He would help anyone in need. He loved the outdoors, the ocean, ships and cars. He was out-going and knowledgable. He will greatly be missed.
Survivors include his four children, Herbert William Richards of Beach Lake, Emelia K. Wilbur of Stroudsburg, PA, Michael W. Wilbur of Beach Lake and Sean Wilbur of Sykesville, PA; 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Herbert is predeceased by his wife Marcella LaJoy Wilbur; his daughter Maria Louise Reynolds, brothers James Wilbur and Ben Wilbur; and sister Alysa Wilbur.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY.
Cremation took place at Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA.
