Balloons for the Fourth

NARROWSBURG, NY — Every year on the Fourth of July, the extended Lander family blows up 500 balloons and hands them out to revelers in the hamlet. They were out in force again this year; pictured are Matthew Martin, left, Sarah Lander, Lynn Martin, Heather Lander and Carley Riefler. Lisa Lander is sitting in the baby carriage.

The day’s activity included a parade, a street fair with vendors, the weekly farmers’ market and fireworks at night. The Narrowsburg Volunteer Fire Department’s chicken barbecue sold out and traffic in the area was steady all day.

The fire department’s new truck was dedicated to Anthony Kaiser, a former member of the department who was killed in a shoot-out with insurgents in Iraq on March 17, 2007.
