Old Stone Jail holds open house
HONESDALE, PA Jailer Dick Kreitner will be on hand to greet visitors to the Old Stone Jail, between the Wayne County Court House and 10th Street in Honesdale, on Saturday, July 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. Kreitner and his corps of volunteers will lead free tours of the jail and tell stories of escapes, suicides and even the birth of a baby girl within the forbidding stone walls.
Built in 1859, the jail is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, and the Wayne County Historical Societys 2009 collectible ornament commemorates the anniversary. The ornament is available for $17.50 plus tax at the jail during the open house or at the Wayne County Historial Society museum at 810 Main Street.
