HERMAN OTTO BRESSLER

Herman Otto Bressler of White Lake, NY, a lifelong Sullivan County resident, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. He was 86.

The son of the late Herman and Elsa Hillig Bressler, he was born on March 3, 1923 in Liberty, NY.

He was a retired foreman for New York Telephone in Fallsburg, NY. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps.

He was a longtime member of the Monticello Chapter of Kiwanis International; a founding member of the Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corps; a longtime member of the Bethel Planning Board; he organized and cooked the Easter breakfast at the Bethel Presbyterian Church. He gained statewide recognition for helping to increase the population of bluebirds in NYS. He built and gave away over 20,000 nesting boxes and was always ready to share his knowledge with others.

He was the husband of Mildred Phillips Bressler, at home; the father of Ralph Bressler and wife Cynthia of Livingston Manor, NY and Linda Nygard and husband John of Deltona, FL; grandfather of Karl Bressler and wife Kathleen of Williamsburg, VA, Kurt Bressler and wife Aimee of Orlando, FL and Krista Bressler of Lewisburg, PA; brother of Alma Curran, Edna York and husband Wayne, all of Liberty, NY, Helen Sherwood and husband Jack, Gretel McCausland of Florida and Otto Bressler of Liberty.

He was predeceased by sisters Olga Fritz, Irmgard Starr, Elsie Kelly and Marguerite Ruppert.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 20 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bethel, NY. Rev. Nancy Asbury and Ginny Bossley officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Route 17B, Bethel, NY.

SANDRA K. CLARK

Sandra K. Clark of Narrowsburg. NY, a housewife and longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at home.

The daughter of Richard Oberlin and the late Patricia Stone Oberlin, she was born April 27, 1951 in Fort Wayne, IN. She was 58.

She was a supporter of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance in Narrowsburg. She was an artist who loved to paint in oil colors.

A family statement reads, “Sandra was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. She had no enemies; she lived her life to her core values. She was James’ world. She will greatly be missed by all that knew her. She was truly a special gift from God.”

Survivors are her husband James, at home; her father of Fort Wayne; sons: Zachary Clark of Kingston, NY and Christian Clark of Narrowsburg; brothers Steve Oberlin of lndianapolis, IN and Richard Oberlin Jr. of Fort Wayne; sisters Sue Moran of Fort Wayne, Linda of California and Sherlyn Hefron of Fort Wayne.

Sandra is predeceased by her mother, Patricia Stone Oberlin.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.


MILDRED I. COLLETTE

Mildred I. Collette of Sparrowbush, NY passed away Monday June 1, 2009 at her home. She was 81.

She was born on September 23, 1927 at Granville, PA, the daughter of the late Gustave and Lulu Rowe Coven.

Mildred was a retired housekeeper at the Eddy Farm Hotel in Sparrowbush. She married Harold Collette, who predeceased her.

She is survived by son Glen Collette of Sparrowbush; daughters Joyce Horrevoets of Port Jervis, NY, and Cindy Moyer and husband Tim of Milford, PA; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, Thomas, Joseph, Cristin, Amanda-Jo, Stacey, and Bryan, three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services and interment were to be held at the convenience of the family.

ERICA MARIE CONNER

Ms. Erica Marie Conner of Loch Sheldrake, NY, formerly of Glen Spey, NY, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 25.

She was born October 5, 1983 in Nyack, NY, the daughter of Debra A. Martin and Michael R. Conner.

Erica graduated from Eldred Central High School class of 2001. She was enrolled at Sullivan County Community College, pursuing a degree in hospitality management, where she was on the Presidents List. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Port Jervis.

A family statement reads: “Erica was blessed with a loving and giving heart, a wonderful sense of humor, a love of reading and of family. She was a member of the “Colbert Nation” and a fan of “The Daily Show with John Stewart.” Forever young at heart, her time with her niece Charlotte always brought out the best in her.”

Erica is survived by her mothers, Debra Martin and Katherine Babcock of Glen Spey; her father, Michael Conner of Nyack, NY; her sister Bobbi-Ann Kanoff, brother-in-law William Kanoff II; and niece Charlotte Rose Kanoff, all of Glen Spey; grandparents Eileen and Richard Martin and William Conner; aunts Karen Lubanty, Lynne Wilhelm and Sandra Conner, all of Stony Point, NY; uncles Richard Martin and wife Kelly of Moore, SC, William Conner and wife Janice of North Creek, NY and James Wilhelm of Stony Point, NY; cousins Jennifer Lubanty, Allison and Lindsay Wilhelm, and Shannon and Ryan Moore, all of Stony Point, Katherine Martin and goddaughter Meghan, and Sean, Caitlin and Kevin Conner; her kitten, Pearl; many extended family members; and many friends.

Erica was predeceased by her grandmother Jane Conner; and her uncle, Walter Lubanty.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, 85 East Main St., Port Jervis, NY, with The Rev. David Lee Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Brick Church Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.

PATRICIA NORTON DOEINCK

Patricia Norton Doeinck of Liberty, NY, a licensed practical nurse at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Care Center in Liberty, entered into rest on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at home. She was 60.

The daughter of Edward Curtin and the late Lorraine Smith Curtin, she was born April 17, 1949 in Port Chester, NY.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Doeinck, at home; daughter Shannon Norton of Cochecton, NY; son Peter Norton and wife Susan of Hortonville, NY; father Edward Curtin of Coram, NY; grandchildren Amaya Burgess and Peter Norton Jr.; stepchildren Daniel Doeinck and wife Amanda of Swan Lake, NY, Timothy Doeinck and wife Jessica of White Sulphur Springs, NY; step-grandchildren Colin and Carter Doeinck; sister Diane Roode and husband Cliff of Mt. Sinai, NY; two brothers, Jerry Curtin and wife Rose Mary of Great River, NY and Robert Curtin and wife Annette of Mt. Sinai; her dearest friend and father of Peter and Shannon, Patrick Norton of Hortonville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by a son, Christopher Batt.

Services were held on Wednesday, June 24 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon, NY. Burial was in Hortonville Cemetery.

RAYMOND L. HENRY SR

Raymond L. Henry Sr., of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. He was 66.

Ray was born on November 18, 1942 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of the late LeRoy F. Henry and Edith Edwards Henry.

He was a retired musician and was known for his band, Ray Henry’s Night Life. He was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church, Port Jervis.

Raymond was formerly married first to Patricia Heussy, who survives; and second to Bonnie Lee VanLeuven Henry, who also survives. He is also survived by his son, Raymond L. Henry Jr. and wife, Vicki of Glen Spey, NY; daughter Michele A. Henry of Belvedere, IL; step-son Frank Birch; grandchildren Bryan, Lori and Kimberli Henry and Larz Shields; and brother David Henry of Cuddebackville, NY.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 24, at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY. Rev. Robert Cassidy officiated.


JEWEL (JAY) LEWIS

Jewel (Jay) Lewis of New Windsor, NY entered into rest on Monday, June 22, 2009 at Wingate at Ulster, Highland. She was 98.

Daughter of the late Daniel and Anna Kevis, she was born on April 12, 1911 in Pennsylvania.

Jay was a member of the Town of Newburgh Senior Citizens, the Golden Age Club and RSVP.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Williamson and husband Jim of New Windsor; grandchildren Scott Wilson of New Paltz and Michele Martucci and husband John of Glen Spey, NY; four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and family friends.

She was predeceased by her two husbands, Jerald Williamson and Fred Lewis; brothers Martin, Peter, John and Michael Kevis; sisters Mary Truchan and Helen Jablonski; and granddaughter Darlene Wilson on March 2, 2007.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh, NY. Cremation will follow at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. Interment of cremains will be in Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown, NY.


JOSEPH N. SOROKI

Joseph N. Siroki, 86 of Shohola, PA passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. He was 86.

He was a retired salesman for Colgate Company, Burlington, NJ. Mr. Siroko was a member of St. Ann’s Church, Shohola, and a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

The son of the late Nicholas and Mary Costello Siroki he was born April 20, 1923 in Clairton, PA. He was married to Olga Rolinko Siroki.

Survivors include his wife; brother John Siroki of Finleyville, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, Shohola, on Friday, June 19, 2009 with Rev. Thomas Major officiating.

Burial took place in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola, PA.

MAIYAH VANDUNK

Ms. Maiyah VanDunk of Port Jervis, NY died Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Sussex, NJ, the result of an automobile accident. She was seven years old.

She was born May 7, 2002 in Denton, TX, the daughter of Thomas VanDunk and Lindsey Warren.

Maiyah was a first grader in the school she loved, A.S.K. Elementary School in Port Jervis, where she was going to receive a certificate for reading at a second-grade level at her graduation next week.

A family statement reads: “Our dearest Maiyah, Your smile warmed our hearts like your love warmed our souls. You brightened the lives of everyone you touched. Although you were only in our lives for seven short years, your spirit will remain forever. We’ll always miss you little one. All our love always, your family and friends.”

Survivors include her mother, Lindsey Warren and companion, Tommy Butler, at home; father Thomas VanDunk of Port Jervis; brother Thomas VanDunk at home; sister, Jorden VanDunk, at home; maternal great-grandparents Jacqueline and Butch McCann of Cuddebackville, NY and James Warren, Sr. of Eldred, NY; maternal grandparents Lori McCann and companion Danny Predmore of Port Jervis and James Warren, Jr. and wife Leonora of Ferris, TX; paternal great-grandparents Diane and Harold Butler of Wantage, NJ; paternal grandparents Penny Seward of South Carolina and Tommy and Pam Butler of Wantage; special aunt and uncle Lisa and Ray Miller and son Luke of Long Island; great uncle Bud McCann of Cuddebackville; uncles Jay Warren of Eldred, James Predmore of Port Jervis, Steven Butler of Wantage, NJ, Steven Hardick of Wantage, NJ and uncle John Hall and companion Jennifer of Hampton, NJ; aunts Alicia Butler of Ringwood, NJ, Stephanie Brown and husband David of Hardyston, NJ, Bernadette Bedner of Port Jervis; also many special aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., Port Jervis, on Friday, June 19 with Pastor Jim Lethbridge of the Gospel Outreach Christian Fellowship in Wantage officiating.

Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
