‘Artifice and Reality’

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Art Society will present “View Points: Artifice and Reality,” a shared exhibition of work by artists Michael Clyde Johnson (Gallery One) and Yeon Jin Kim (Gallery Two) of the CAS Arts Center, starting on June 27 and running through August 9. There will be an artists’ talk on June 27 at 4:00 p.m., followed by an opening reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

In his most recent project, Viewing Retrospective Artworks, artist Johnson takes on the issue of context in determining the terms with which a viewer encounters an artwork by constructing the set in which the viewer encounters it. For this installation, Michael will create and construct a fictional gallery within the CAS gallery.

Artist Jin Kim has made a series of four videos that stem from recurring dreams. Through drawings and sculptural models which are arranged sequentially, she films them in one long take, using a tiny spy camera. These “constructed sets” allow her to fuse dreams, fantasy and reality. The camera creates the vantage point from which the viewer moves through and experiences this fictional space.

Both artists hold MFA degrees in Art from Hunter College in New York City.

Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or by appointment. The CAS Arts Center is wheel chair accessible.
