A sanctuary for music

Wildflower festival opens its 27th season under the stars

WHITE MILLS, PA — The Wildflower Music Festival will open its 27th season on Saturday, June 27 at 6:00 p.m. with the Eaken Piano Trio.

Comprised of violin, piano and bass, these Grammy-nominated recording artists are still going strong in their 22nd critically acclaimed season in the U.S., Europe and Canada. Heard regularly on National Public Radio, they had two of the top five best sellers nationwide for the Naxos label for the last eight years. Playing such diverse favorites as Brahms’s “Hungarian Dance,” Bach’s “Air” and Mendelssohn’s “Opus 49 Trio,” they have delighted audiences all over the world.

Other planned concerts will feature a variety of music from jazz and ragtime to bluegrass. There will be a fee Young Artist Concert on Saturday, July 18 and on Saturday, July 25 a special concert with Judy Collins. Performances begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Wildflower Amphitheater on the grounds of the Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary in White Mills, between Hawley and Honesdale. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and pack a picnic to enjoy the setting. Light beverages will be for sale on the Sanctuary grounds.

General admission costs $20, $10 for students six to 18 years old, and there are no extra charges for parking. The cost of the Collins concert is $30. Tickets may be purchased by mail, phone or internet. They are also available the evening of the concert.

In the event of inclement weather, performances will be held at the air-conditioned auditorium at the Wallenpaupack Area High School.
