Audubon holds Birds and Blooms walk
LOOKOUT, PA The Northeast PA Audubon Society will hold a Birds and Blooms walk in the Browning Beaver Meadow Sanctuary on Saturday, June 20. The hike will be through three different habitats: riparian zone, wetlands and uplands. The guide, Joan Thirion, will point out native wildflowers, local and migrating birds, ducks and much more.
This walk is in memory of Floyd Schnakenberg, who was a past president of Northeast PA Audubon, and was involved in the Upper Delaware Heritage Alliance, the Equinunk Historical Society and the local school board. He put an easement on his land, aided by the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, led walks in the Florence Shelly Preserve and helped restore the Bell Tower at Lacawac Sanctuary.
Wear waterproof boots. Binoculars and a camera are recommended. Participants will meet at 8:00 a.m. on the sanctuary observation deck on Hawley Road about 20 minutes north of Honesdale.
RSVP at 570/228-1704 for directions. There is no fee and the walk is open to everyone.
