Historian recreates local stage coach ride
HONESDALE, PA Historian Mary Curtis will be the the next speaker in the Food for Thought series of talks at the Wayne County Historical Society at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. Her topic, A Stage Coach Ride from Newburgh, NY Across Wayne County, will return listeners to the early days of our county, when the main road was the Cochecton-Great Bend Turnpike, which connected to the Newburgh-Cochecton Turnpike and gave settlers and visitors access to the mostly unsettled Wayne County. Curtis plans a first-person description of the stagecoach trip based on her research.
The next scheduled speaker in the Food for Thought series will be Gene Tagle, who will discuss The Irish Experience in Wayne County on June 27.
