MILDRED I. COLLETTE

Mildred I. Collette of Sparrowbush, NY passed away Monday, June 1, 2009 at her home. She was 81.

She was born on September 23, 1927 in Granvile, PA, the daughter of the late Gustave and Lulu Rowe Coven.

Mildred was a retired housekeeper at the Eddy Farm Hotel in Sparrowbush. She married Harold Collette, who predeceased her.

She is survived by son Glen Collette of Sparrowbush; daughters Joyce Horrevoets of Port Jervis, NY and Cindy Moyer and husband Tim of Milford, PA; grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew, Thomas, Joseph, Cristin, Amanda-Jo, Stacey and Bryan; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

NELSON F. HILL SR

Nelson F. Hill Sr. of Jeffersonville, NY, a paper sales representative for Hudson Valley Paper Co., after a short illness, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Westchester County Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. He was 49.

The son of the late George V. Sr. and Dorothy M. Conklin Hill, he was born January 28, 1960 in Suffern, NY.

Nelson will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years, Marie E. Dozois Hill, at home; sons Nelson Hill Jr. of Goshen, NY and Christopher Hill of Jeffersonville; daughter Diana Foley and husband Evan of Arlington, VT; brother George Hill Jr. of Hillsboro, NH; sister Dorothy Hill of Hillsboro, NH; grandson Alexander Foley of Arlington, VT; and friends, coworkers, customers and the church family of the Liberty Free Methodist Church.

A memorial Service and gathering was held on June 6 at the Liberty Free Methodist Church. The Rev. David McCarthy officiated.

JOAN A. HIRSCH

Joan A. Hirsch of Washingtonville, NY, formerly of New City, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall campus. She was 71.

The daughter of the late Edward Hirsch and Mary McGovern, she was born June 16, 1937 in the Bronx.

Joan was a retired administrative clerk for New York Telephone.

Survivors include sisters Linda and husband Joe Ott of Shohola, PA, Donna and husband Tommy Forsythe of Hopewell Jct.; niece Michelle Forsythe; nephew Tommy Forsythe; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Hirsch.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville on Wednesday, June 10. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

CLIFFORD L. KRANTZ

Clifford L. Krantz of Jeffersonville, NY, a retired teacher at Sullivan County BOCES in Liberty, NY and lifetime area resident, died June 6, 2009 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. He was 91.

The son of John B. and Hilda Schuler Krantz, he was born January 4, 1918 in the Town of Delaware.

Clifford was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Jeffersonville and superintendent of the Sunday School for many years; Delaware Lodge #561 F & A Masons in Callicoon, NY; Emmett Turner Post #276, American Legion; a 60-year member of the Jeffersonville Fire Dept., and he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Hubert Krantz, at home; his children, Paul Krantz and wife Debbie of Glen Allen, VA, William Krantz and wife Linda of Cochecton, NY, Karen Jay and husband Tom and Diane Grund and husband, Ed, all of Cochecton Center, NY; brother Donald Krantz of The Beechwoods; sister-in-law Muriel Krantz of The Beechwoods; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Everett Krantz; and a sister, Hazel Schuler.

Firematic services were held on Monday, June 8, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY, followed by Masonic Rites.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 9, at the funeral home with Pastor Kit Robison officiating. Burial was in Jeffersonville Lutheran Cemetery, Jeffersonville.

FRANZ J. MEYER

Franz J. Meyer of Jeffersonville, NY, a longtime area resident, passed away on Tuesday May 12, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. He was 82.

The son of the late Klemens and Maria Maus Meyer, he was born on August 9, 1926 in Germany.

Franz was a master craftsman in stained glass, apprenticing in Germany after World War II. He worked in studios in Germany, Italy and Switzerland and was involved in the restoration of the stained glass windows in the huge cathedrals that were bombed during the war, especially in Florence.

He arrived in America in 1964. He created some of the largest stained glass installations in the country in his studios in New York City and in Jeffersonville, where he moved in 1973. Franz was renowned in the field of restoration, especially of Tiffany shades and windows.

A family statement reads: “Franz was a major talent in all areas of stained glass and his work lives on.”

He is survived by his cousin and special friend, Anne Maus of Callicoon, NY; a brother, Klemens Meyer of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY.

A memorial mass was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Callicoon on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11 a.m.

EDWARD J. SCHIAVELLO

Edward J. Schiavello of Callicoon, NY, a retired technician and engineer for ITT in Nutley, NJ, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 in Liberty, NY. He was 82.

The son of the late Leo and Leah Panarello Schiavello, he was born in New York City on March 24, 1927.

Mr. Schiavello was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by sisters Elizabeth Schiavello of Callicoon, Virginia Pawlak of Callicoon and Rita Loiacono of Mt. Kisco, NY; brothers, Leo Schiavello of Florida and Joseph Schiavello of California; nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was held Monday, June 8 at Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, with Fr. Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating.

Burial was made in the Callicoon Cemetery, Callicoon.

ROBERT L. WASSERMAN

Robert L. Wasserman of Milanville, PA, a lifelong resident of the area and president of Technical Insurance Services in Jeffersonville, NY, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at home with his family by his side. He was 63.

The son of the late Harry and Adelle Beck Wasserman, he was born in Monticello, NY on March 13, 1946.

A family statement reads: “Bob was a loving husband, stepfather, brother and uncle. He was a very active environmentalist and he worked with a number of local organizations in their efforts to preserve the River Valley. He was also a great musician, playing both the piano and the clarinet and an enthusiastic patron of the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. His appreciation for American antique clocks and fine arts was a source of immeasurable pleasure. Bob possessed a wealth of knowledge, especially of the local area and its history. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community, especially by his wife of 22 years, Joanne Sciarra Wasserman.”

Survivors include his wife at home; stepson Justin Scarimbolo and wife Radhika Bapat of Pune, India; brothers Steve Wasserman and wife Babette of the Bronx, Tom Wasserman and wife Janice of Bethel, NY and Dan Wasserman of Deerfield Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 9, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. Burial followed in Milanville Cemetery, Milanville.
