New lives for old barns

YOUNGSVILLE, NY — Antique barns, their history, construction, preservation and long-term viability, will be the focus of the June meeting of the Wayne-Lackawanna Forest Landowners Association (WLFLA).

The public is invited to join WLFLA members as they meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 to tour two restored barns that were recently transported to Sullivan County and re-erected there.

Guiding participants will be Niall Barrett, a founder of Beechwoods Barns (www.beechwoodsbarns.com), a Narrowsburg, NY, firm that specializes in dismantling, moving and re-erecting antique barns. On hand to help provide background and context will be Sally Talaga, executive director of the Wayne County Historical Society, and Charles Ross of Save Our Barns (www.saveourbarns.org), a Honesdale-based group that aims to raise awareness of our region’s rural heritage by documenting, researching, and preserving stories and images of barns in Wayne County.

Lunch will be served free to WLFLA members and at $5 per person for nonmembers. Reservations are required. For more information visit wlfla.org call 570/430-6316.
