American Veterans Traveling Tribute

HAWLEY, PA — This guitar was left in front of the panel where the name of Douglas W. Guest Jr. appears on the traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall that came to Bingham Park along with other memorials acknowledging each of the conflicts the United States has been involved in. A message across the front of the guitar read, “Doug — Here is your guitar. Take it and play it. Play it for Mom and Dad, there with you now. Sing your Ricky Nelson songs. Take care. Love ya, Craig.”

Such personal mementos are frequently left in memory of loved ones who died in our nation’s wars. The community park was transformed into a scene of emotional remembrance between May 27 through 31 as thousands of visitors made their way through the series of displays. The event was organized and funded by the Tour of Honor, a group of Leadership Wayne graduates sponsored by the three local chambers of commerce. The traveling tribute is off to Newburgh, NY for its next stop. Visit www.avtt.org for more information.
