Hunter safety at Frost Valley
CLARYVILLE, NY Frost Valley YMCAs Spring Sporting Weekend on June 20 and 21 will include a two-day hunter safety course, along with a Women in the Outdoors Day on Saturday.
The Hunter Safety Course (for rifle hunters) will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Participants must attend both days to receive certification. Dan Raczak will be the lead instructor. The initial day will involve primarily classroom instruction, with the second day including some shooting at Frost Valleys rifle range.
The Women in the Outdoors Day will be held on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Sponsored by the Sullivan County Long Beards, the event will include introductory hunting and fishing courses for women only. Courses will include turkey hunting instruction and setup, orienteering, a guided interpretive hike and gun safety and shooting instruction. There will also be instruction in archery, compass reading and pistol, skeet and flintlock shooting.
This free event is for females ages 13 and above. Memberships for the organization Women in the Outdoors, will includes a one-year subscription for Women in the Outdoors magazine, plus a Sullivan County Long Beards outdoors hat, will be available for $30. Anyone registering for the Women in the Outdoors Day by June 12 will receive a free door prize. To register call 845/439-3738.
