Observances
Bicentennial Memorial Day celebration and parade
FREMONT CENTER, NY The 125th annual Fremont Center Memorial Day Parade will also celebrate the Sullivan County Bicentennial. It will take place on Monday, May 25, starting with a graveside veterans memorial service at 9:30 a.m. in the Fremont Center Cemetery. The parade will follow, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Fremont Center post office and proceeding to the Fremont Center baseball fields.
Festivities starting at 11:00 a.m. at the ballpark, with bicentennial specials including an award for the most authentically dressed couple from 200 years ago, a slideshow presentation of past Fremont Center Memorial Day Parades and more than a century of historical photos presented by Steve Strauss under the tent at the Fremont Ball Park.
Other attractions will include the East Ridge Fife & Drum Corps, Rev. Shawn Colin Bailey Sr. singing the national anthem, country/western music by Jim and Rita Greier & the Texans, guest speakers Congressman Maurice Hinchey and Dan Briggs and speeches and awards. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the baseball concession stand, and for those in search of something more substantial, the Fremont Center Community Church Hall will offer a family-style ham dinner from 11:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets cost $9.
Memorial services
BETHEL, NY There will be Memorial Day services at 11:00 a.m. at the Town of Bethel Veterans Park.
FORESTBURGH, NY Services will be held at the Veterans Triangle on Route 42 South on Monday, May 25 at 9:00 a.m. The service is sponsored by the Town of Forestburgh, along with the local Monticello posts of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Refreshments will follow the service at the Forestburgh Fire Company. Al Etkin will be master of ceremonies.
GLEN SPEY, NY There will be Memorial Day observance at the Lumberland Town Hall at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25. Refreshments will be served.
LIBERTY, NY There will be a parade lining up on West Liberty Street and North Main Street at 10:00 a.m. and stepping off at 10:30 a.m. The parade will end up at Liberty Veterans Cemetery on Cold Spring Road, where there will be a short program.
The Memorial Day services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the cemetery at Sunset Lake Road. The master of ceremonies will be John Bridges and the keynote speaker will be Colonel Daniel Ragsdale, vice-dean of education of the U.S. Military Academy.
LONG EDDY, NY There will be a veterans memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25 at St. Patricks Catholic Church.
MONTICELLO, NY Memorial Day services will be held at the Veterans Monument, County Government Center, on Monday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. The service is sponsored by the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The keynote speaker will be the newly elected president of the New York State Gold Star Mothers Association Chapter, Ann Davis. Refreshments will follow the service at the Monticello Elks Lodge. Al Etkin will be master of ceremonies.
NEVERSINK, NY There will be a Flag Exchange service at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
OBERNBURG, NY There will be a veterans memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25 at St. Marys Catholic Church.
ROSCOE, NY There will be a parade at 10:00 a.m., followed by services at West Field Flat Cemetery, with a guest speaker.
WOODRIDGE, NY There will be a service on Sunday, May 24 at 4:00 p.m. in Veterans Park, followed by refreshments.
WURTSBORO, NY There will be a parade at 1:00 p.m., followed by services at Wurtsboro Park. The master of ceremonies will be Bob Vogt.
Fairs and flea markets
Yard Sale-o-Rama
LIBERTY, NY The Village of Liberty stages a Yard-Sale-o-Rama on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, with residents all over town participating with yard and garage sales. Pick up a map at town and village halls in Liberty (120 and 167 North Main Street), HSBC Bank on South Main Street, Floyd & Bobos Bakery (98 North Main Street), Swan Lake Country Store (corner of Route 55 and Briscoe Road), Greens Grocery in White Sulphur Springs (Route 52 and Shore Road) and the Mobile/Exxon in Parksville (corner of Route 17 and Cooley Road).
St. James Country Fair
CALLICOON, NY St. James Episcopal Church will hold its Country Fair and Yard Sale under tents along Route 97, near the intersection with Route 17B, starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23. The yard sale will feature second-hand books and flea market finds such as dishware, rugs, furniture, lamps, collectibles, vintage games, art work, tools, kitchen items, and much more. There will also be crafting supplies for jewelry making, picture framing, knitting, rubber stamping, candle making and other hobbies and free fun and games presided over by the Loretto family.
The fair will continue until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and reopen on Sunday, May 24, at 12:30 p.m. with discounts on already low prices. Final closing will be at 3:30 p.m. For more information call 845/887-5454.
Ice cream social
EQUINUNK, NY The annual ice cream social at the Equinunk Historical Society Museum will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, following an opportunity to place flags on graves of veterans in honor of Memorial Day.

GLEN SPEY, NY A giant flea market will be held at the Glen Spey pavilion from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23.
Firefighters flea market
HONESDALE, PA There will be a flea market at the Forest Volunteer Firehouse from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
