Learn forestry skills at field day
MANCHESTER, PA There will be a forestry field day on Saturday, May 30 at the Olvers Tall Timber Tree Farm, just north of Stalker. Among the activities will be a demonstration of directional tree felling, chain-saw safety, a search for medicinal herbs, old-time woods lore, a thoughtful look at timber harvesting and a hearty lunch.
The day-long session, offered in cooperation with the Wayne-Lackawanna Forest Landowners Association, will begin at 9:00 a.m. The lunch, featuring roast pork, will be served at 12:00 noon.
The 558-acre timber-tree farm has been managed for nearly 20 years by professional forester Craig Olver with help from wife Janet and daughter Tara. The three were honored as Pennsylvania Outstanding Tree Farmers for 2007.
