EDNA M. DENK

Edna M. Denk of Sparrowbush, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Milford Senior Health Care Facility, Milford, PA. She was 91.

The daughter of the late Robert W. Clark and Ruth Yates Clark, she was born May 10, 1917 in Sparrowbush. Edna married William G. Denk on June 18, 1939; he predeceased her.

She was a member of the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Karen Lee Smith and husband James of Matamoras, PA; her brother, Robert W. Clark of Hendersonville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Private interment will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.


BEVERLY HANNON

Beverly Ann Hannon of Jeffersonville, NY, a retired office manager for Grandview Insurance Company in Yonkers, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at her home. She was 73.

The daughter of Cliff and Isabel Fowler Bayer, she was born June 13, 1935 in Yonkers. She was married to Robert W. Hannon.

A family statement reads: “The Hannon family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, especially Kathy Berger, for her outstanding care and compassion.”

Survivors include her husband at home; daughter Stacey Lorson of Yonkers; grandsons, Nick, Sean and Adam; and brothers Robert Bayer of Massachusetts and Clifton Bayer of Nevada.

There are no services. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.


CYRUS V. KEAN JR

Cyrus V. Kean Jr. of Port Jervis, NY passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in Port Jervis. He was 61.

He was born on January 18, 1948 in Port Jervis, the son of the late Cyrus V. Kean, Sr. and Frances Theresa O’Neill Kean.

Cy was a retired locomotive engineer for Conrail Railroad, Hoboken, NJ. He was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Port Jervis. He served with the First Division, 16th Infantry, U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Roosa-Fleming V.F.W. Post #161, Port Jervis, and Vietnam Veterans of America. Cy loved to run and ran in the New York City Marathon.

Cyrus married Christina Nowik Kean, who survives at home. He is also survived by son Ryan Kean and companion Lachlan of Port Jervis; brothers John J. and wife Carolyn of Dade City, FL, Bernard and wife Pamela of Spring Hill, FL, Francis and wife Eileen of Glen Spey, NY, Cary and wife Denise of Norcross, GA and Kevin L. and wife Kelly of Port Jervis; sister Kathleen Cassaniti and husband Louis of Interlaken, NY; grandchildren Erin, Emily, Riley, Sarah and Grady; and several nieces and nephews.

Prayers were offered Saturday, May 9, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Interment took place at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Military Honors.

ARLENE F. (KOEHLER) LACEY

Arlene F. (Koehler) Lacey of Falling Waters, Masthope, Lackawaxan, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at home. She was 69.

She was born in New York City to the late William Koehler, and Agnes Tringali Koehler, who is living in Florida. She also is survived by her husband Thomas Joseph Lacey Sr., wed for 48 years.

A homemaker, Arlene was affiliated with St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Shohola, PA and a member of the Columbettes and Red Hatters.

In addition, Arlene is survived by son Edward P. Lacey of Hawley, PA, daughter-in-law Phyllis and Steven Kurtz of Copley, OH, son Thomas J. Lacey Jr. of Middletown, NJ, daughter Kelly Ann Susino of Keansburg, NJ; sisters Carol Moran and Ginger Schaschoner, both of Florida; brother William Koehler of New Jersey; grandchildren Tara, Jenel, Joseph, Christopher, Brendan, Brittany, Thomas III, Morgan and Colin; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Genevieve McCully.

Funeral services were at Teeters’ East Chapel, Wednesday, May 13 with Deacon Glenn Biagi of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church officiate. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel, PA.


ROSEMARY LEE LEON

Rosemary Lee Leon of Glen Spey, NY, beloved wife of the late Jose Louis Leon, Sr., died on May 9, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 64.

Rosemary was born February 9, 1945 in Cornwall, NY, the daughter of the late William Aurthur Ransom and Gertrude Charlotte Bruyn.

She was a retired administrator for the Holden Home in Newburgh, NY.

A family statement reads: “We thank you for being a wonderful mother who was always there for us. We are grateful for all the love and wisdom you instilled in us. We are who we are today because of you. You will forever be in our hearts.”

Rosemary is survived by children Gertrude Raymond and husband Harold of Slate Hill, NY, Jodie Mann and husband Richard of Glen Spey, Jose Louis Leon Jr. of Glen Spey; stepdaughters Iris Pagan and husband, William, Mildred Ortiz and beloved Debbie and husband Jose, all of Connecticut; grandchildren Marissa, Gerrod, Rachel, Donald, Chad, Daniel, Tyler, Jackie, Daisy, Annette, Luigi, Kennysa, Janner, Betsy, Danny, Shanika, Natasha, Elizabeth, Takisha, and Edwin; several great-grandchildren; brothers: William Arthur Ransom Jr., Richard Bruyn Ransom and Stephen Charles Ransom; and sister Victoria Lee Ransom.

She was predeceased by her first-born grandchild, Carlos Rivera.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis. Cremation will be at H.G, Stroudsburg, PA.


FRANCES LUBNIEWSKI

Frances Lubniewski of Liverpool, NY died on Sunday, May 10, 2009. She was 81.

Born on October 4, 1927 in Dickson City, PA to John and Zofia Strugala, she married the late Edward Lubniewski on January 22, 1949.

She was a former employee at the Sullivan County Correctional Facility and the Monticello school district as a secretary. She was a 4-H leader and active in Cooperative Home Extension; a member of the Red Hat Society and of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Liverpool and a member of the choir. She was a member of the women’s auxiliary with the Smallwood/Mongaup Valley Fire Department. She loved to travel, sew, cook and nurture her family, and she loved gardening and photography. She was a compassionate soul, helpful to others before she did for herself.

She is survived by her son, Edward and wife Mary Lynn of Smallwood, NY, daughter Rose and husband Bob Allan of Liverpool, NY, son, James of Rock Hill, NY and daughter Judith and husband Robert Timberger of New Windsor, NY; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and her special friend, George Palmer.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 12, in St. Joseph the Worker Church.

A memorial service will be held in Monticello, NY at a later date.


ROCCO JOSEPH ‘ROCKY’ MELOI JR

Rocco Joseph “Rocky” Meloi Jr. of Montague, NJ and a lifetime area resident, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. He was 62.

He was born April 14, 1947 in Port Jervis, the son of the late Rocco Joseph Sr. and Marie Mazzaferro Meloi.

Rocky married Paula Grathwohl on June 1, 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam as an air traffic controller.

Rocky was a real estate broker/owner of ERA Meloi Realty, Inc. in Port Jervis, Matamoras, PA, and Milford, PA. He was the owner operator of Meloi Plumbing & Heating for 23 years. He was a member of the National Association of Realtors and NYSAR-New York State Association of Realtors. He was a partner in Meloi Liquors, Montague, NJ. He was a member of the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce. Rocky was an avid NY Giants Fan and loved deep sea fishing.

Survivors are his wife at home; mother Marie Meloi of Montague; sons Alex of Matamoras, Andrew Rocco and wife Courtney and their son Logan Meloi of Milford, PA; sister Marie Anne Gleason of Shohola, PA; mother-in-law Dorothy Grathwohl of Port Jervis; aunts, uncles and cousins; and one niece and one nephew.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. James The Greater R.C. Church, Montague, with The Rev. Wayne Varga officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis.

PATRICK A. MILLER

Patrick A. Miller of Damascus, PA, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at home with his family. His wife, the former Evelyn Kunkle, died in January. He was 83.

Patrick was born in Plymouth, PA, the son of the late Michael and Gladys VanOrden Miller.

He was a camp caretaker for Camp Equinunk for many years and he was recently employed at the Roberts Bats Factory. He was a member of the Black Diamond CB Club in Wilkes Barre, PA and RC Cars of Beach Lake, PA. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Patrick was a loving husband and father.

He is survived by three sons, Alvin Miller of Waymart, PA, Dale Miller and his wife Kathleen of Forest City, NC and Dave Miller and his wife Tracie of Damascus; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Braman United Methodist Church with Rev. Alice Pedone officiating. Burial followed in the Braman Cemetery. It was a double funeral, to also remember Patrick’s late wife, Evelyn.

SIGMUND T. STRYSKO

Sigmund T. Strysko of Mahwah, NJ, died May 7, 2009. He was 78.

He was the son of the late John Sr. and Sophie Strysko.

He was the loving father of Michael J. Strysko of Swan Lake, NY and Mark Strysko and Barbara Panos of Smallwood, NY; grandfather of Brittany, Christopher and Joshua; and brother of Stanley Strysko, Mary Strysko and Edna Cannizzaro.

He was predeceased by brothers John, Charles and George; and sister Frances Tomsic; and companion of Peggy Coddington.

Sigmund was a member of the American Legion Post #531 in Mahwah, an honorary member of the Hillburn Fire Department and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave., Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, May 12 at Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church in Mahwah. Interment followed at Mahwah Cemetery.
