GRAHAMSVILLE, NY—What’s better than a solo individual performance in track and field? Answer: a stellar combined effort from a team’s best athletes in a single event. That’s how many events, which are normally scored individually, are accounted for each year at the Tri-Valley relays.

On May 2, large and small schools traveled to the Sullivan County Mecca of Track and Field to vie against a field of major contenders in a dazzling array of relays, combined performances and a few individual races such as the 100 (boys and girls), the 1500 (girls), the 1600 (boys) and the 1600 meter race walk (girls).

CALLICOON, NY—The brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures were inviting to golfers as the Eldred girls and Tri-Valley boys traveled to take on Sullivan West’s teams on April 27. Eldred arrived with an unblemished 3-0 record, having beaten Monticello, Ellenville and Roscoe, but, by day’s end, the Ladies of the West, who came in at 2-1, equaled Eldred’s record by posting a 156-187 win over the Lady Yellow Jackets. Jillian Fife, Claire Stabbert and Meg Calkin each scored 52 on the par 35 segment.

Melissa Westfall was Eldred’s top golfer on the day with a 53.

ELDRED, NY—Keeping up with spring sports is like watching a multi-ring circus. Look one way and you’re apt to miss a great act that is taking place just over yonder.

Sometimes, though, your gaze is fixed on just the right place at just the right moment to witness something special.
