Bethel sewer extension project underway

TOWN OF BETHEL, NYIt was shiny new shovels all around, as local, state and federal politicians gathered in the hayfield at the intersection of Route 17B and Happy Avenue on April 24 for the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kauneonga Lake Sewer District extension project. The new 1.8-mile line and two new pumping stations will provide sewer service to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, and should be completed within the next three to four months.
Along with Bethel Woods, the line will be available to businesses and some residents along the Route 17B corridor. Bethel supervisor Dan Sturm said one of the purposes of the extension is to promote commercial development along the corridor and help to preserve natural resources in other parts of the town.

A full agenda for Sullivan

MONTICELLO, NYIt was a busy day at the government center on April 23, as lawmakers tackled some of the most pressing issues facing Sullivan County.
First, the lawmakers took a significant step toward determining the future of the landfill in Monticello. In a clear sign that they are abandoning the phase two expansion, lawmakers voted to go into contract with a company called Cornerstone Environmental Group, LLC to advance plans for alternative action.

Sullivan casino agreement reached with Senecas
Where does Interior Secretary Salazar stand?

MONTICELLO, NYThe Sullivan County Legislature voted unanimously on April 23 to approve a mitigation agreement with an Indian tribe that would like to open a casino in the county. The facility would be built on Route 17 at Exit 107 in Bridgeville.
At first, The Seneca Nation had expressed opposition to entering into any agreement with the county separate from an agreement with the state but, ultimately, the tribe came around.
