Old Time Fiddlers host Canadian fiddling star

HONESDALE, PA — The Old Time Fiddlers are celebrating their 30th year of promoting traditional music in Wayne and surrounding counties by sponsoring Canada’s fiddling sensation, Shane Cook, and his accompanist Jake Charron, on Saturday, May 2. The concert will be held at 8:00 p.m. at the Honesdale High School Auditorium.

Besides the evening concert, Shane will also be giving a free afternoon workshop at the Wesley Room of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale, at 2:00 p.m. Anyone interested in getting advice to advance their playing technique should attend this workshop.

At the age of 26, Canadian Shane Cook “rates at the top of the short list of the finest fiddlers in the world today,” says the Canadian Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame. Cook has distinguished himself as a master of the Canadian old-time fiddle tradition and excels at an array of fiddle styles ranging from Irish and Scottish to French-Canadian, Texan and Bluegrass. After a recent concert at The Opera House, The Boston Herald wrote, “Shane Cook’s Celtic fiddling was enough to break hearts.”

Tickets are available in advance or at the door. Admission costs $15 for adults, with children 12 and under admitted free. For more information email fiddlinaround@hughes.net or call 570/224-6330.
