Celebrate April with a poem in your pocket

REGION — April is poetry month, and the second annual Poem In Your Pocket Day will be celebrated on Thursday, April 30. The idea is to select a poem you love during the month and then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family and friends on April 30, 2009.

Poems from pockets will be unfolded throughout the day with events in parks, libraries, schools, workplaces and bookstores. You can create your own Poem In Your Pocket Day events, or let the organizers know how you will celebrate Poem In Your Pocket Day by emailing npm@poets.org.

Suggested events include urging local businesses to offer discounts for those carrying poems, posting pocket-sized verses in public places, handwriting some lines on the back of your business cards, adding a poem to your email footer or texting a poem to friends.
