‘Human/Nature: Explorations through Poem and Image’

ELDRED, NY —Sandy Long, known to many as a reporter and photographer covering local stories for The River Reporter, will read from her work as a poet at the Sunshine Hall Free Library at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.

Long’s writing is partly defined by an interest in the complexities of the relationship between humans and the natural environment and how that relationship, in its interplay of choice and circumstance, shapes our lives. She explores this concept in poetry and photography, sometimes in combination.

After the reading, Long will lead a workshop where participants explore poetry through an exercise conducted in a supportive atmosphere. The event is open to the public, free of charge, and light refreshments will be served.

Long’s writing was recently recognized with several awards by the New York Press Association, which called her story about Tamara Lycholaj, a Ukrainian Holodomor survivor from Glen Spey, NY, “profoundly moving.” She will be the featured photographer, on the theme of “Bridges,” in The River Reporter’s upcoming “Literary Gazette.”
